Today, Valve has confirmed that iFixit will be their official partner for getting replacement parts for the Steam Deck. Plus, there's a teardown video.

From the official announcement:

Hope everyone’s doing well – 10 days and counting until launch day! We have some exciting news to share. If you watched our Take a look inside Steam Deck video (aka the “please don’t do this” video), you may remember we said certain Steam Deck replacement parts would be available for purchase.

Today, we’re announcing that iFixit will be one of the authorized sellers of Steam Deck replacement parts – as well as replacement parts for the Valve Index VR kit. We are still hammering out the details, and will be sharing more info on this soon.

Valve continued to be clearly consumer-focused with their approach to the Steam Deck. With plenty of the software being open source, releasing the CAD files and now this too. It's pretty amazing and we can't wait to see more from it.

The Steam Deck releases on February 25.

i hate this meme, but now i have to say it:
valve does, what nintendon't

its amazing how valve is changing the industry for better, with good/consumer friendly pratices

Wow, iFixit are hard to please. Every part is replaceable, I can even imagine motherboard / SoC upgrades being available in the future, and only merits a 7/10 repairability score!

They do have a point about the battery though. I just hate it when it is glued down.

It's hard not to be a Valve fanboy at this point. Say what you will, but they are one of very few tech companies that actually treat their customers with trust and respect.

I think Valve hate logistics with parts So they outsource it. Valve is happy, iFixit is happy, customers are happy.
And nintendo ... hate it because we can see how it can be done :-D

Same here. It's a consumable, it should be user-replaceable, and preferably without tools. The rest looks pretty good though.

I think they glue batteries in as glue flexes slightly, Being a device that's "Portable" it's likely to be dropped the odd time.
