RimWorld will be getting some upgrades to make it look great on the Steam Deck but it's going to take a little longer.

In a statement released on Steam, Ludeon Studios head wrote that the developer who was working on it lives in Ukraine, and the situation there right now of course is terrifying. They mentioned getting a Deck to this developer was delayed and the current situation means progress couldn't be made on it. Another developer is now taking over the Steam Deck upgrades instead but it's going to take a little bit longer.

Currently, they said it does work on the Steam Deck (and it has a native Linux version) but "there are a number of UI issues and some general jankiness we intend to solve with an update".

For now RimWorld is officially listed as "Playable" for Steam Deck, with the notes mentioning it sometimes shows the wrong icons and some text requires manually opening the keyboard. Ludeon Studios suggest waiting for their update to be out before diving in.

You can buy RimWorld from GOG, Humble Store and Steam.

Situation is terrifying there. I hope, it will end up soon. I sympathize with the Ukrainian people.

Hope the developer and their family/friends are ok.

Russia just made my nightmare reality. We all have to do something to help the folks in Ukraine. If Putin gets hold of Zelenskyy he'll have his objective. No amount of sanctions will change that. The Russians aren't trying to hold territory, they're making a push to Kyiv to take hold of the government. Not unlike the invasion of France, they're relying on momentum and confusion.

I'm praying for everyone over there. If I was NATO's Supreme Commander of Allied Forces, I'd come up with a plan to bolster Ukraine to protect it's sovereignty right about now. Not the nuclear option! That would lead to the planet being uninhabitable, I guarantee it! I've always been paranoid about this sort of thing happening since Georgia in '08.

Waiting for that Russian straw-man to show up anytime now...

What Putin is doing to Ukraine is pure insanity. Pointless destruction and death with no goal. A sick power play by an absolute madman. The old man has completely lost it, and millions will suffer because of it.

Well, you won't be disappointed if you hop into youtube, and any video that mentions it. Tech Tips did a video mentioning their sympathies for Ukraine at the moment, loads of "strawmen" on there. They seem to keep busy.

In all seriousness, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a literal miracle. If Ukraine somehow comes out of this in one piece, a few things will happen. Putin will lose credibility, maybe even his presidency. Ukraine will most definitely fast-track joining NATO, as they will feel a need to bolster their ability to defend themselves.
Hope things return to sanity sometime soon. Between this and a possible conflict around Taiwan, things aren't looking good. From a "peace on earth" standpoint, and from a tech standpoint.
