The Long Dark gets fixed up for Linux with Vulkan and Steam Deck Verified

The Long Dark, a very chilly survival game that's not really like any others recently had an upgrade. It's also a Steam Deck Verified title.

Writing in a short and sweet Steam announcement, the developer said: "You'll be happy to know that The Long Dark is Steam Deck verified! Access your Steam library on the go, and use Steam Deck to explore everything the Quiet Apocalypse has to offer. Plus, the Hinterland team has been hard at work on visual and performance improvements on Linux to make your experience on Steam Deck even better. "

For longer than I can remember, The Long Dark suffered some annoying visual bugs on Linux. It's to do with Unity and their OpenGL implementation, with distant textures flickering - something I've seen happen to a few other games. It was very distracting and testing it today on my desktop, the great news is that it has been entirely solved.

Looks like for Linux, they actually switched over to Vulkan!

Yet another game that has improved on Linux most likely entirely due to the existence of the Deck. Love it.

I have that game in my Steam library, but I haven't gotten to it in my backlog. Now I'll never get to experience "wobbly snowy rocks." Darn! (actually: Phew!)

You can still use OpenGL and experience it by passing a launch option

Actually, I might actually have to do just that. I tested the game with the latest patch yesterday, and while Vulkan did get rid of the "wobbly snowy rocks", it seems to have some quite bad performance issues on my system.
