0 A.D. is a free and open source historical RTS that's been in development for a long time. Each release is impressive and it sounds like the next release is going to look pretty shiny.

Sharing an update on their official forum, one of the developers noted how they've added in Anisotropic filtering which should bring the game to life even more for those of you with a reasonable PC. See the below picture they shared for a comparison with it (click picture to enlarge):

Must say, that does look quite a bit better when you have a good look - but is it something you will notice while you're scrolling the camera around? Perhaps not so much but still, it's another tick in the box to help 0 A.D. look even more crispy.

This next update won't only be good for those with powerful computers though, there's also new options for weaker systems too. You will be able to actually decrease the texture quality, something most other modern 3D games also allow.

Possibly more so as you're scrolling around. Without AF, textures at an angle (which is most of them, because perspective) tend to shimmer as the camera moves.

The most polished open source game, by far.

Always exciting to see what 0AD is doing. As usual, I'm looking forward to each update.

Hopefully they can get better performance when everyone's pop capped and there's a lot of action going on.
