Valheim, absolutely one of the best games available natively for Linux is going to get some upgrades for the Steam Deck. Oh, there's also some teased new content so that's cool too. In an official post on Steam celebrating one year since the Early Access release, the team went over some of the details.

For the Steam Deck, they didn't go into any real specifics on what they're doing other than "We would of course like to have Valheim running smoothly on it from the start, so that’s something we’re working on at the moment.". However, on Twitter one of their developers did show a brief video of it running but the quality of the video makes it hard to see properly. At least we know it should have great gamepad support sometime soon thanks to it!

As for new content, work continues on the Mountain Update with new teaser shots:

On top of that work also continues on the Mistlands Biome Update. Sounds like it's still a while away, as they've just now got the "core concept" for it done and so they at least know what they want to put in it. They said " we’re now working on a bunch of new build pieces and enemies, as well as defining more of the new mechanics we will be introducing (though we’d like to keep those secret for a while longer)" and teased some concept art for it:

I think once these two big updates are out, I'm definitely jumping into a fresh world - what about you?

Valheim is available to buy on Humble Store or Steam.

Sounds great.
I am eager to give a try at these new biomes.
The second picture is very dark, but ... as you have probably guessed, this is on purpose

Interesting. Will they be using the native engine? I've had performance issues (Vulkan ans OpenGL) and issues with the config not saving properly and opted therefore to play using DXVK since it performed better and seemed better tested. Didn't try the native one in a while though.

Would be really cool if they can get the native engine better by optimizing for the steamdeck. It's good enough with DXVK though, so not really a painpoint there.

I'll always welcome new content to an already great game. I like the look of that first pic.

p.s. I got my first Lox saddle today and went for a ride up a mountain, good fun!

I haven't played for a while, so I'll probably start from scratch too.
