Do you want to play Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout on Linux or Steam Deck the easy way? Well, the community-built version of Proton named GE-Proton (formerly Proton-GE) has a new version out to do just that.

GE-Proton7-15 brings with it all these changes:

  • vp9 support enabled in gst-plugins-good for ghostwire tokyo videos (they work now)
  • protonfix added for State of Decay 2 crashes (thanks ThisNekoGuy!)
  • protonfix added for Fall Guys EAC (works now, thanks rokam!)
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for Car Mechanic Simulator 2021
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for Harspace: Shipbreaker
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for Solasta
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for Monster Train
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for The Complex
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for Cook-Out
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for DJMAX Respect V
  • WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER video fix enabled for Gloomhaven
  • steam runtime and sdk updated (contains vp9 libraries required)
  • various build commits pulled from upstream proton
  • vkd3d-proton updated to git HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton@4a05360 prior to 4/21 (latest UAT updates on 4/21 caused gpu hang during testing)
  • vkd3d-proton upstream ghostwire tokyo commit HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton@119e00e cherry-picked and applied
  • dxvk updated to latest git
  • dxvk-nvapi updated to latest git
  • wine updated to latest bleeding edge

As for Fall Guys, it now works without issues. Really, the developer just needs to put things in the right place as they've put up the actual Easy Anti-Cheat file needed that works. Until then though, using GE-Proton is the easiest way to go. For those who love their video guides:

Note: if you find it doesn't work, check to ensure you have the "Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime" installed in your Steam Library.

You can buy Fall Guys on Humble Store and Steam.

Re Fall Guys: Is it just the fix from ProtonDB comments or something more? Because that fix didn't work for me on two accounts/computers. One is stuck on "loading" and the other has some weird pop-up about missing files and then shuts off.

You can see exactly what it does here.

Verify game files, delete proton prefix and try again.

Hats off to GE for the fix for Fall Guys, and thanks Liam for the article, but at the same time, ugh..

Why is this even necessary? Surely if a developer cares enough to enable EAC compatibility they could at least put the EAC file in the right spot? Why did they even publish the update without at least testing it once to ensure it works? And why after weeks of it being widely reported that the file is in the wrong spot, have they STILL not moved the file into the right place? It's not exactly a 'major fix' to implement, it's literally just moving a file..

Probably because they don't know how to install linux (ot that they can install linux to a PC running Win) and don't have access to a deck.

From my experience it's usually not a knowledge issue, but rather a time (aka money) problem. If the publisher doesn't pay for it, it's not going to be planned for, and if it's not planned, there's no time to do it.
(Edit: Of course game studios can still do such work as self-investment.)

What about the stable Proton GE 7.0-2?

Initially Fall Guys failed to start for some other reason (DirectX shared resources, see here.
So they did the right thing: they stopped thinking and simply followed Valve's instructions. Sure they made a small mistake where to put the file, but at least they did the unblocking part.

If they just went with their internal testing and stopped at “Can't get it to run, nevermind…”, we probably wouldn't have Fall Guys running on Linux yet.

So they did test it, and their tests actually failed, but I'm glad they published nevertheless :-)

Same, I tried the fix and got stuck on the "loading" after passing the "start" button and hearing the fireworks.
Same now with GE-proton715.

If verify the game files and it always finds 1 file failed to validate and will be reqauired (a file when downloaded is 144b) can't seem to get past this :/

if game start but stuck on loading: you need to connect your epic account with your steam account
