Worms, a game I grew up with playing on the Amiga, it's an absolute classic and some modern versions just don't have the same charm. Thankfully, Worms 2 can be played easily on Linux (and Windows) thanks to Worms 2 Plus.
Originally released back in 1997, it's obviously quite dated now. Getting it running on modern systems can be quite a hassle but that's where Worms 2 Plus comes in. The developer emailed in about it, as they've made sure that it nicely works with Wine too and the installer "automatically configures the game for Wine" they tell me, and this is a perfect way for Wine to shine.
There's a lot that Worms 2 Plus does like applying the last official patch, adds a Borderless Windowed mode, fixes various sound issues, online play without extra configuration, LAN play restored, server list is fixed, plus various other enhancements from other patches. Heck, even GOG suggest people to use it.
So, if like me, you're a bit of an old-school Worms fan, try it out and see what you think.
I'm biased by childhood nostalgia, and I don't care.
Quoteit's obviously quite dated now.
While it may show a bit of its age, the graphics didn't aged that badly, the performances are top (sure, it requires far less than later games, but as long as you fit the minimum, it is running very well.) and the gameplay is only topped by Armageddon (sorry WarMux, but you just don't make the cut here).
Worms 2 even had some perks Armageddon didn't had (massive settings for custom games, real map editor, no puny 4 teams of 6 worms or something, more like 6 or 8 teams of 8 worms, screw balancing etc...).
This patch is some godsend thing, guess my brothers and I are going to play some.
Quoting: pbWorms: Director's Cut was the best version, change my mind.
This was the first Worms I played, none of the followups were quite the same.
Quoting: crseMan, seeing this post reminds me of old Wormux. It's truly the best FOSS Worm clone.I have always preferred Hedgewars!
Would be sweet if we got more Team17 ports.
Quoting: slaapliedjeCould have sworn there were a few worms games that released for Linux, but only found Worms W.M.D.

There's also Worms Reloaded and Worms Clan Wars. Not that I'm going to buy any of those any time soon, because I was really disappointed in W.M.D.'s Linux port. After almost four years this bug is still around. It breaks Steam overlay, which is needed for inviting friends to multiplayer matches. My friends and I got so annoyed, we wound up switching to Hedgewars instead. It's not as flashy or feature-rich as W.M.D., but the multiplayer is pretty much hassle-free.

Ouch! Is it at least also affecting Windows? Then at least you can tell they don't give a shit about anybody, instead of just not giving a shit about us. :P

Responding horribly late, but no, it's not affecting Windows. It's just Linux users who are getting the shaft.
Quoting: ixnariha, I hang out in a lot of old computer forums... where there are occasionally decades between flurries of responses. Sometimes makes me forget that if a post is older than like 2 days on reddit, no one will ever read it.Quoting: slaapliedjeQuoting: ixnariQuoting: slaapliedjeCould have sworn there were a few worms games that released for Linux, but only found Worms W.M.D.
