It's not just the Steam Deck that is getting upgrades, as Valve are also tweaking the main Steam client with a fresh Beta release out now. This one actually does fix some pretty annoying issues, some of which should really make things easier.

Here's what's new:

Steam Cloud

  • Fixed sync error for games which have converted Cloud-saved files into directories
  • Fixed Cloud sync for some games with slightly malformed cross-platform Steam Cloud sync settings

Linux
  • Fixed an issue where updating graphics drivers would re-download media pre-caching files
  • Added home and mounted drive paths to the file picker quick bar
  • Fixed the file picker extension filters not appearing when selecting Library custom art
  • Added the ability for the file picker to remember the previous location when selecting Library custom art
  • Fixed adding non-Steam shortcuts with spaces in the path

Nice to see Valve finally pay some attention to the file picker, as that was left as extremely basic for so long. With the Steam Deck though, people are doing a lot with desktop mode with adding third-party software, so a lot of this was needed there too. Should just make doing that a smoother process. Good to see Valve really paying attention to every part of Steam lately.

Oh my god, finally, this. This got me so, so confused when I first got into Linux, it took an entire year for me to understand what went wrong and how to fix it on my own.

You think it's third millennium, but still half of the stuff breaks on an "ä" or even a " "...

OMG, finally. Hope this helps, it re-downloaded on every restart or switching between stable and beta.

File picker improvements? Finally! The pain of having to manually select images for a mod in Steam Workshop by tediously traversing the entire file tree to their location from the default starting location deep in Steam's directories, one by one

The file picker changes are great, still missing a button to hide/show hidden files, though.
The media pre-chaching thing also sounds like a nice fix - I would like to see a solution for the constant shader pre-caching downloads, though (maybe at least a setting for weekly/monthly updates instead of every time steam is opened)

Oh my, I recently got into this, all cloud games being suddenly out-of-sync, and not being able to launch / losing saves on all thoses games...

I had to rename all steam folders into .old, then install everything again, and install them again one by one, to fix the issue... Glad it is being fixed

Finally the re-download stuff gets a fix. That was really annoying the hell out of me.

Wondering if that fixes the re-download and shader pre caching on pretty much every start. That will show, but I doubt they really had updates to the games sometimes every hour or so.

No, it's not my download cache ;-)
