The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is out now

By -

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe from Crows Crows Crows is out now with Native Linux support and it's looking good. In no time at all, it gained an Overwhelmingly Positive review score on Steam so it seems this new expanded edition has been worth it for both the developer and players.

"When a simple-minded individual named Stanley discovers that the co-workers in his office have mysteriously vanished, he sets off to find answers.

You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will make a choice, and you will have your choices taken from you. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. You are not here to win. The Stanley Parable is a game that plays you."

Wasn't that planned to be a free upgrade for those already owning it?

I don't know about that but the old game is using Source while the new is made in Unity. So it probably involved quite a lot of work.

It's instead 33% discount for first two weeks if you own the original.

I think I remember that too. But Plans change I guess?

Well with the discount you can think of it as a 16$ addon to a 9$ game.

I received the original game for free, and I still felt ripped off.

[Narrator Voice]Well now that I have played it a little bit, I must say, that it really is just a soulless expansion with little more then just 2 hours of booring elevator content.[/Narrator Voice]

I liked it.. and it's just a "soulless" game maybe, but that makes it feel really "Portal 1"-like to me. Also, good lord, the performance it's astounding, I know it's just a map and assets with some interaction, but still, I knew since the first loading screen it couldn't be Source.

As a dedicated player of Paradox games: wow, sounds like a great deal!

I played a few hours last night (found the New Content, won't spoil it!), and found I had a silly grin plastered to my face pretty much the entire time. I found the original through watching someone's video on it, so it was fun to go in un-spoiled this time. Maybe I'm just a sucker for metahumor, but I could listen to The Narrator yammer on all day. (Luckily I've spent enough time listening I can hear anything I read in his voice, if I want. )

They still owe me for the first one. Insultingly stupid and disrespectful of my time. I played through a few different scenarios in hopes that there was going to be more to it, but none of them were interesting. I did like the narrator (that's what attracted me to it in the first place), but that got old, fast amidst the annoyance of the game. Harsh, but that's how I feel about that game.

I don't even care about the cost of a game. I'll give you $100 if a game substantially entertains me and I'll buy it 12:01 AM on release day if it's something I have been wanting.

Very nice that they did a Linux port though. I sincerely appreciate that, though I won't personally be playing it.

That does sound like Stanley Parable. The original doesn't have much to offer if you're not curious about what happens if you would have chosen differently.
Spoiler, click me
I wonder if many have actually obeyed the narrator...

If you didn't like the first one, I doubt you will like the Ultra Deluxe either. The new content at times references the old game, which would make you bit confused. Ultra Deluxe also doesn't reveal everything right away so some patience is needed.

At least one reviewer was disappointed by the lack of new content, which might have been just because Ultra Deluxe content is bit hidden and you can miss lot of it if you give up early.
