The mixture of a deckbuilding roguelike with escape-room style puzzles and psychological horror in Inscryption is now officially available for Linux with a Native build. Developed by Daniel Mullins Games and published by Devolver Digital, this very popular and well-reviewed game originally released back in October 2021.

Interestingly, the developer noted that while working on the Linux (and macOS) ports that they "came across some issues that have existed in the Windows version since Kaycee's Mod" so thanks to the porting work the game will be improving for all players.

About the game:

From the creator of Pony Island and The Hex comes the latest mind melting, self-destructing love letter to video games. Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards...

In Inscryption you will...

  • Acquire a deck of woodland creature cards by draft, surgery, and self mutilation
  • Unlock the secrets lurking behind the walls of Leshy's cabin
  • Embark on an unexpected and deeply disturbing odyssey

You can buy a copy from Humble Store and Steam. Currently GOG only has a Windows version.

Steam Version is currently in Sale, 13,99 €. A No-Brainer for me under these circumstances.

I'm eight hours into this - it's superb. The core game mechanic is cool enough, but the added escape-room stuff is so well done, so well integrated, the whole thing becomes a masterpiece.

I already counted this game as native a while ago in the TCG article, since I have played the Linux beta start to finish, and also Kaycee's mod without any issues.

This is the indie game fantasy made true. Lots of pretenders, but, at the end of the day, just Hollow Knight, and Inscryption. It is really one of the best games out there right now, of any genre. It is just such a joy to count it in the Linux native list.

Oh, and motherf* NO SPOILERS!!

Sigh. Game runs at 500 fps, but no vsync option. After fiddling made it forced vsync only to find out that it forces WASD on you. Done with it, refunded.

I can also get like this in the first 10 minutes or so with a game... I picked up Star Traders: Frontiers after having it on my wishlist forever and watching lots of reviews. There was no resolution scaling to the window size, and I needed to restart the game every time I chose a new resolution; just got fed up and refunded.

what a glorious time to be alive
