Minecraft 1.19 - The Wild Update is out now. Not only that, all owners now get both Java & Bedrock together as they've been merged into a single purchase.

Not that it particularly matters to Linux players, since Microsoft / Mojang still have no plans to bring the Bedrock version to Linux but still good as a whole to see. They will remain as two separate editions but now you always get both.

Anyway, The Wild Update! It's here! Trailer below:

There's plenty of tweaks to existing features too. See the full update notes for more.

Nice to know.

I will join the parent club soon. So I guess I should start to get updated with the Minecraft news. :P

Mojang sounded fairly committed to their Linux client before Microsoft bought them out.

Oh well, first Scype, then MineCraft.

Another Linux friendly product destroyed by Microsoft. Microsoft now loves Linux !!

Quoting: CJLXI'd like to see bedrock on Linux too. Yes I know java is better but I've played bedrock with my 2 children for a number of years (me on Windows before I ditched it for Linux and them on android).

Untill recently a comunity driven project allowed you to run Bedrock ( the android version ) on Linux.

But the switch to the new rendering engine along with some hardcore bullying by people who were using the software to run pirated apk's means the project is properly abandoned now :(

So I made the switch to java when playing with the kids now - even though farms are tons more productive ( the simple iron farm we made has produced more iron in the few hours after building it than every iron farm we've ever made in bedrock edition ) the game just feels so damn sluggish to play even with optifine :|

Lucky for us, we still have Minetest and Terraria (this one is not open-source, but have much, much, MUCH more depth and items than MC).

Shame that I cant play because Microsoft wants me to give them a phone number for "security purposes". Not even MY phone number they say I only need one to login, it can be any. And "of course" it will not be saved into my account. This data hoarding needs to stop.

People who are paranoid that Java is going to stop being developed and replaced by Bedrock do not spend a lot of time around Minecraft communities.
The dedicated part of the playerbase that sticks around and gathers communities/audiences always use features that are better suited for Java; be it hardcore mode (Bedrock doesn't have a hardcore mode!), redstone/technical builders, aesthetic builders (custom shaders/cinematic mods/ texture packs), speedrunners, or modders. Bedrock can only boast 'faster' loads, though Java has mods like Sodium/Phosphorus/Starlight that give good memory usage and high frame rates on potato computers.

TLDR; Most of the players that bring in millions of viewers/interest in Minecraft use Java specific features that Bedrock refuses to implement. Get rid of Java, and Microsoft will kill the majority of their audience and new players being brought in by people who use Java gameplay features.

Quoting: CJLXSeems so odd that MS will put Minecraft Dungeons on steam but not the main game itself.

Let's hope Steam Deck really takes over mainstream scene, to the point ignoring Steam release is simply losing potential money.

yeah, this was really scummy -- I went through the MS account migration when it happened and even added a hardware key in anticipation of the 2fa requirement I'd been hearing about, but when I tried to log in a day later it locked me out and demanded a phone number. I still haven't bothered.

Agreed, it's a shame Terraria doesn't do proper split screen on PC (but does consoles, apparently). Otherwise I'd have my kids try it.

They just realized Minecraft updated and are super pumped RightNow. They've been playing since before they could read

Surely Microsoft has the resources to add all of the Java version festures to Bedrock right? So the missing features are hardly a guarantee of them keeping the Java version, right?
