Fancy catching some creatures? How about directly in your terminal window? Pokete is a free and open source Pokemon-like. Just like the classics it features various creatures across different types like Plant, Water, Fire and they all have their own strengths and weaknesses.
It's currently in active development but it's already quite playable with a long list of features. In the last month it only just had another major release adding in smarter NPCs, achievements, fights with multiple Poketes, in-game time for day and night Poketes encounters and you now get transported to safety if all your Poketes faint during a battle just like a certain other game.
Pretty fun idea for a terminal game really, can't wait to watch it evolve.

This will go into the imaginary "show off" distribution in which everything is terminal.
No Chrome, no Firefox. Only Lynx.
No Steam, no Battle for Wesnoth even. Only various roguelikes, that one economy/war sim whose name I forgot and now this.

This actually seems really interesting. Especially for all the terminal warriors.

The one you're thinking of is probably Arcane Fortune. Plus I thought of various versions of trek, taipan, and dwarf fortress in PRINT:TEXT mode (Handy way to play it over ssh!).

Great DF shoutout, I love that Toady One included TEXT mode pretty much exclusively for the mad bastards who want to play DF over SSH. :D
Also, thanks for mentioning Arcane Fortune, turns out there was a 0.4.0 release about a year ago that I missed (and I maintain the AUR packages... ).
