As we say goodbye to Q2 and hello to Q3, Valve has confirmed that production of Steam Deck units has increased to the point where they're going to be sending out a lot more.

Today is one of the usual days for emails to go out (so check your inbox) and Thursday is the other day where it happens. From this Thursday (30th June), things will be just a bit different. Confirming the details on Twitter, the official OnDeck account said:

Hello! Some great news on the production front. We just sent the last batch of Q2 emails, and we’ll start sending Q3 reservation emails on the 30th. Production has picked up, and after today we'll be shipping more than double the number of Steam Decks every week!

You can check your reservation status on the official Steam Deck page. Also don't worry if you miss your email, you do get another chance to get a Steam Deck.

Designer Lawrence Yang, who recently warned people about certain SSD upgrades, also mentioned on Twitter:

We’re looking forward to getting more Steam Decks into your hands! As you may imagine it’s pretty difficult to make hardware right now, and the team has been kicking ass behind the scenes to keep Steam Deck production ramping.

I got mine Friday and I'm loving it. I hope everyone who's still waiting doesn't have to wait too much longer!
I got mine on Friday, too. It's awesome and well worth the wait!

Steam Deck multiplying the production and still barely catching up with orders, and then more GPD Win's, more AYA Neo's, OneXPlayer, AYN Odin, and Ambernic and...
... and yet some were still thinking that there's no market for a hand-held PC.

Quoting: TheRiddickI'm just going to wait for AMD's next-next APU lineup see what handheld vendors can do with RDNA3.

Thus far all the other vendors charge a small fortune compared to the steam deck and don't offer the same kind of controls. Though almost all of them have better CPUs already since the steam deck CPU/GPU is already pretty old by cutting edge terms.

The real question I wonder is if/when we'll see a 3rd party actually get a price that comes close to the steam deck with matching or better performance.

For myself I'm not interested in spending over $500 on a handheld, especially since I have to buy 3 of anything I get. [kids]
I agree on price. For $400, the Steam Deck is a heck of a deal. I bought a 512 GB SSD to replace the SSD for less than $100, so for less than $500 I get a handheld PC that can play a good amount of PC games, and handle emulation up to PS2. I like mine more than I thought I would so far.

Hmmm . . . say, slightly off topic, but during the run-up to the Deck arriving people were talking about it being sort of secondarily, on top of the gaming, like having a really cheap little laptop. It occurs to me that while it's a bit underwhelming as a laptop, it can totally replace a tablet, like an iPad or something. I mean, it's like a tablet only the gaming is better, it's easier to hold, and it's got controllers. Pretty much anything you can do on a tablet, you can do on the Deck, only it's probably easier and more comfortable.

I think this is totally true. I have an old Amazon Fire and have been trying to figure out how to turn it into a Linux tablet for a while. It occurred to me when I started playing around with desktop mode on the Deck that I have a Linux tablet now.

I mean, not all that cost effective compared to a Fire, but better in every other way.

I think the Deck illustrates exactly what they were trying to do with the Steam Controller in a way that hopefully will finally make sense to people.

Holy crap! More than double?! Vastly underestimated... My rtReserveTime queue was progressing by 4-5mins per 3 days, in average... It just got bumped by 48mins for the last 3 days. I'm 15mins from ordering... Meaning I went up from 54.75% to 89.37% on GetMyDeck.

Will I be able to order it on monday? Please! Please! Please! Make it so!

Update (July 4th): Just got my email! "My precious" is ordered! Q3 is really ramping up!

Oh wow, they weren't kidding about shipping out more! My expected order time was "after Q2", and I just got my email today—technically still the last day of Q2 here in the US.

(I suppose I'll still actually receive it in Q3… )
