Capcom has released a cloud gaming browser demo of the popular Resident Evil Village, so you can try it out in only a click and a few seconds waiting on pretty much any platform. As long as you're using a Chromium-based browser, that is.

It uses "Immersive Stream for Games" from Google, which is their rebrand of the technology used for Stadia that they give out to publishers and developers for direct use. So while the actual Stadia store continues limping on, the tech behind it at least should live on for years as more developers offer up quick cloud demos like this.

Google noted in their blog post about it that they've continued to expand Stadia's own cloud game trials, with 15 games now available to try out at no cost without even having a Stadia account too and they plan to increase that number over the next year.

Pictured - a shot taken from testing it today.

For Resident Evil Village, it certainly helped that the developer already had a version for sale on Stadia, so they didn't need to do a port to Linux (since Stadia uses Linux) or wait for Google's upcoming Windows compatibility layer.

Head over here to try it.

Where they have servers, probably. Not great for people from other places, admittedly.

Great first impression - doesn't finish loading neither in chromium nor in vivaldi...

But if it would work, this would be a great way to provide demos imho - after all, downloading 100GB to test a game for 10min is kind of excessive ;)

Running very well, there's two demos (or rather levels) to explore; the village and the castle. Worth mentioning though that the default controller settings might need to be tweaked a little. Basically disable head-bobbing and gamepad acceleration, otherwise you might get motion-sickness, at least I did after few minutes. Don't know what were they thinking with those weird settings...

That's actually pretty ingenious. I wonder if it leads to more users purchasing a stadia version of the game, since they will be able to experience how it performs for them. Or maybe capcom plans to sell a streamed version via their own label?

On an unrelated note, I unsubscribed from stadia not long after receiving my SteamDeck. It works great for me, but I found I hardly ever used it any more. Glad that I will still have access to the games I purchased, without the need for subscription. I probably won't miss the Pro titles that much.

I managed to stay away from Stadia for several months, damn Destiny 2 was becoming so addictive, eating my whole free (and not only) time. Somehow, I got "cured" for a while, and I even finished some games from my Steam backlog.
Alas, I relapsed again, in fact I think is time to check today's quests. Oh dear...

heh.. I'm reminded of a forum post from back when World of warcraft was launched, somebody was furious that keybinding was broken - ALT + F1 - F3 worked perfectly fine by every time he hit ALT + F4 the client would crash.

similar to my other experiences with Stadia; a lot of video compression artifacts and noticeable input delay, despite my solid internet connection. Guess I'm not close enough :(
