I quite disagree. That is as close to saying "get out if you disagree; you must go elsewhere and either speak in an echo chamber or a forum where only certain types of people congregate," yet anyone who supports the topic is allowed a voice EVERYWHERE it is mentioned.

If controversial topics cannot allow simple opposing opinions, then I say comments should not be allowed on those publications.

Nothing I have said can be considered inflammatory and I never said that I support emotionally heated arguments. Please don't stretch what I said beyond what I actually said.

Except it's always certain types that make a stink about certain topics. Even though the site has nothing to do with it, you almost surely encounter right wing trolls on every article even remotely connected to the fake outrage they spread. Some of us are living in fascist countries and it's really annoying to encounter it on GoL.

I apologize to the mods if they have to moderate me again because of this, but it is even more annoying on this site, because it's well moderated and the users are generally more tame than the average "gaming" forums or phoronix.

Well, this topic is a tough one to moderate, honestly. But (I think) we're generally very light-handed on the GOL team. Here's the entries from the rules section which apply most:

Quote- Politics is important, it affects everything and everyone. However, be mindful of what you talk about and spread. If it is likely to cause arguments, don't post it. Most of the time, political chat isn't really needed here. Obviously if we cover something political, that is inviting respectable debate keeping all the other rules in mind.

- Think "Would I say this in public to people I've never met before?" if the answer is no, think about it.

- Try to remain polite and do not attack others. Using hostile language towards others, and name calling are absolutely not needed. Doing so will result in warnings or bans without a warning if it's especially offensive without a damn good reason.

- Any form of hate speech or discriminatory speech is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, being toxic on gender topics and so on. We're an inclusive community, remember that. Be nice, get along.

That guides me when I consider if I need to edit or delete a comment. Now, I support reproductive rights for women, so the question is almost whether I consider opposing views to be hate speech.

14, you seem to be against reproductive rights. I have no idea why that might be, but just stating your position isn't going to fall into the "hate speech" category. I'm not neutral on this subject, obviously, but bear in mind that in the other thread on this subject, we moderated both sides of the argument, and mostly those who fell on my side of the camp, simply because it's hard to "argue" about this stuff without frustration and anger leading to name calling.

So in summary, moderation is hard, but I think we mostly get it right.

I am opposed to aborting what is most likely the eventual human life with some exceptions. If left unimpeded it were to have a life, it is worth protecting and having its own rights.

Now, I don't really consider it worth my time and energy to really argue and change minds in this setting. But I do believe it's important to have some representation. It's important for people reading through comments to see at least a couple people speaking up that they agree with.
