Valve has announced that the Steam Bash Bash event will be going live between September 19 and September 26. This particular event is more of a violent one with the focus on hack and slash, spectacle fighters and whatever games focus on some form of melee fighting hence the bash bash.

This isn't just another little genre-focused sale event though, it's going to be a little more like Next Fest it appears with sections for unreleased games and demos to get their own bit in the spotlight too.

Looks like this time it's invite-only by Valve too, as Valve will be reaching out to developers about it as long as they have the Steamworks permission "Receive Steamworks Communication" set.

Valve list various criteria for games and those that are primarily thought of as one of these types: Character Action Games, Spectacle Fighter, Hack-and-Slash and Musou. Games must have melee combat as the "primary game mechanic" too and Valve said they typically have some of these too:

  • RPG elements
  • Third-person gameplay
  • Fast-paced combat
  • Swordplay, shooting, etc.
  • Tracked combat combos or a visual representation of damage being dealt
  • Character moveset/weapon customization
  • Score/ranking system
