After being announced back in June, we now actually have a release date for the latest Hearts of Iron IV expansion from Paradox with By Blood Alone coming on September 27th. By Blood Alone centers the political and military fortunes of Italy. The historical path, as always, is open to those who want to relive the dramatic years before and during the war. Alternatively, players can engineer the end of Mussolini's rule through a socialist revolution or a strong monarchy.
Just like other Paradox games and as usual for HoI, a free update for all players will be live at the same time.

Features:
- New Italian Focus Tree: Follow the historical path of Mussolini's Italy or rewrite history by restoring power to the monarchy, leading a Communist revolution or replacing Mussolini with one of a variety of new contenders.
- New Ethiopian Focus Tree: Defy the odds to defeat the Italian invader or resist the conqueror from abroad using unique Government in Exile abilities.
- New Swiss Focus Tree: Surrounded by France, Germany and Italy, the mountain nation of Switzerland finds strength in its neutrality, balancing competing factions and overtures from the great powers.

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderI always love the look of the Hearts of Iron games.... But I dont have a spare 87 years to learn how to play these games.....Eh, it just took me about 10-20 hours to get the basics.
I mean... "just".
Definitely worth the time investment, though, as you can then get hundreds of hours more out of these games, especially with mods.
Honestly, it's not really more complex than something like Rimworld.
The difference is that all of the complexity is front-loaded, because you get all the systems to deal with from the get-go.
You also really don't need to understand everything.
For example, I have hundreds of hours in the game and still no clue how naval stuff really works. I just build two types of ships doing two types of things (minelayers and general purpose destroyers) and that seems to always do the trick. If I bother with navy at all to begin with.
My suggestion would be to NOT start with a large nation, but a small one that sits in relative safety.
That way, you can focus on only a few things to begin with (you won't have the resources for more, anyway).
Easier to learn, that way.

I've just watched Quill18 on YouTube and learned how to play Paradox games from him. It doesn't take that long, and it's been worth it for me. It's so chill to just sit back with a strategy game, put on a record or two and let it roll. :)

This. Don't know about this specific youtuber, but Youtube tutorials have been what I needed for about all Paradox games when I started them, from EU4's commerce system to HOI4 battle plans/logistics/etc.
Please don't miss out and spend 20 minutes on a tutorial Youtube video, you won't regret it ! (your wallet could, though)
