Heroic Games Launcher enables you to download games on Linux and Steam Deck from both the Epic Store and GOG. A big new release version 2.4.0 is out now with some massive new features.

Some of the big new features at a glance include:

  • GOG Cloud Save, which works for games run through Wine / Proton.
  • A joystick overlay.
  • Epic Overlay support.
  • Easy Anti-Cheat + BattlEye runtime support. Plus listing anti-cheat status on game pages, although that may not be entirely accurate as it's using an external source and usually applies to Steam games directly.
  • An easier way to add environment variables and wrappers for launching games.
  • A quick way to add a shortcut directly to Steam.
  • Various helper icons for things like DXVK, VKD3D and others.
  • Lots of UI upgrades

You can download it easily as a Flatpak from Flathub (via Discover on Steam Deck), or as an AppImage from the GitHub page.

And if you ask GOG or Epic, supporting Linux is such an insurmountable task, that there is no way in hell anyone could achieve in their lifetime.

Same, they are legitimately awesome. I'd have thought GOG Cloud Saves would be too complicated, but here we are.

I wonder what's next for them -- I'd personally would love for other stores to get support but I really don't know if that's finally in their target now and if so, which one will get priority.

There are still features that are missing compared to the original clients.
Chatting with Friends, comparing achievements , seeing how long you and your friends played a certain game.
Before you go for new stores, finish the missing features.

Also don't forget that there has to be an open source client like legendary to build upon.
Someone has to do the heavy lifting with research and implementation first ;)
Unless you can provide that Lutris is the easier option.

That needs a lot of tea and pasta:

Epic Overlay is now supported, doesn't that mean you can chat?

GoGs social features are not supported yet ;)
I am not sure if this overlay stuff in EGL is complete as i don't know people on Epic.
