Proton Experimental for Steam Deck and Linux desktop from Valve recently had two small updates. Although small, they do have some major fixes. This is the extra special version of Proton you can try, it pulls in new features and fixes earlier to get more Windows games working on Linux desktop and Steam Deck.

Recent updates across two newer releases include:

  • Fix Final Fantasy XIV Online launcher functionality after game update.
  • Fix OpenXR compatibility with Blacktop Hoops.
  • Mitigate GTA V having issues loading textures.

Changelog available here. As a reminder, you now need Mesa 22 / Nvidia drivers 510.47 or newer for Proton Experimental.

The FF XIV launcher is kind of a running gag, isn't it?

The GTA5 issue mitigation is just adding PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 and PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 for that game out of the box. Weird that the latest game update now requires that, but it performs practically the same now as it did before it needed those, so definitely still playable.

That workaround fixed it for me on intel+nvidia.
