Valve has released a small update to the Steam Deck Beta branch, mostly bug fixes but also an improvement for handling external displays. Here's what's new.

From the official changelog:

  • Added ability to adjust image display settings for external displays that have overscan issues
  • Fixed issues with some images being too large when viewing guides in the overlay
  • Fixed spoiler tags in guides to be selectable so that they can be revealed
  • Fixed issue with medium length game names in the Main Menu Overlay not properly scrolling
  • Fixed Achievements page not updating properly when a new achievement was earned

To opt into the Beta, press the Steam button and head to Settings and then to System. Scroll down to Beta Participation and choose it from the drop-down box.

The overscan thing is nice, I've seen people talk about that.

I am using the stable channel on my Steam Deck and can't wait until they (probably) make a huge stable upgrade with many of the beta features.
I do hope that they fix some minor annoyances that I have. For an example the force shutdown Steam+b (hold) does not always force a game to close. In most cases you can still start other games, however, unless the Steam Deck is restarted, you cannot start that game that is not shutting down properly. Also sometimes when the Steam Deck is woken up, the password unlock goes crazy (automatically "pressing" buttons") and only suspending and waking it up again fixes it.

In the store (which I assume can be fixes without a system update) they should add two things to a game's page.
  • Have the ability to see how much space a game takes up. Currently they have removed System requirements from the Steam Deck store page, which I can understand why, but it would be so much more convenient to buy games, if I know how much disk space it requires. At least they could have a toggle somewhere to just give display the system requirements from the desktop store.

  • Let me click the images on the game's page to enlarge them. It is a bit annoying that a movie can go full screen, but I cannot enlarge the images of the game. (Also the movie stops the first time volume is changed)

  • Navigation using the d-pad in the store is very awkward, when clicking on the Reviews button and then afterwards using the d-pad to scroll down. Here feels like the cursor is still located in the top of the page, which causes d-pad-down to scroll up until it "meets" the view

Really wished for the overscan feature. Last time we did a couch session with the deck, some games were hard to play because necessary info was invisible.
