Seems the hope for Easy Anti-Cheat being fully hooked up for Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Steam Deck and Linux desktop with Proton is not lost.

343 are actually working on it, but it seems like certain other games it has not been a simple case of just flicking a button and putting the files in the right places. On Reddit in reply to someone saying it's just ticking a box a 343 employee replied:

It's a bit more involved than that, but let me check with a few folks and try to get back to you with a status update.

Then in a follow-up post they said this:

Here's something more official from the developer on my team working on it.

We continue to work with Valve and EAC to enable EAC support on Steam Deck for Master Chief Collection. The addition of the easyanticheat_x64.so file is one of the prerequisites to getting this working, but there are ongoing compatibility issues that our three teams are collectively working to resolve.

I would love to provide more specifics, but the ongoing compatibility issues mean we only have a few pieces to the overall puzzle as everyone's working through their side.

Can confirm we ticked the box.

So there you have it. While it doesn't work right now, they are actually working on it. Once I hear any more on it, I'll be sure to let you know. You can play single-player offline though in Halo MCC, although you probably still need to do my fix.

At least Halo Infinite works though right?

A good, transparent response at least. Kudos for that!

Personally I've had nothing but good luck with Halo: Master Chief Collection via Proton so far, in both single-player and non-EAC multiplayer co-op with friends, but I'm still quite happy to hear they're actually trying to put the finishing touches on making it "complete".

Glad to see it, I hope to play MCC on my desktop soon.

I get bugs fast-forwarding replays. Determinism issues?

I wish there was a plit screen mode though. Plus, that would work right away!
I guess the more complex part with that is account management. Maybe a good opportunity to introduce "loadouts" that include character customization, or save slots/profiles?

I personally can’t wait for this. I was really excited when they added the EAC .so file because I realised that they were trying to make this happen, even if they did break the game as a result. Hopefully gets sorted soon. Good to know they’re working on it

Will be nice to be able to play 90% of Halo on Linux once they get this fixed as Love the classics in MCC and Halo Infinite is alright atm (lacking content). even though do not like the story of Halo 5 I did like the multiplayer quite a bit so would be nice if they released that on pc as a solo game or optional dlc for MCC then we could play 100% of Halo love it or hate it

Was broken here for a while - guess I know why now, lol! Tried it last night and it's working fine, can even connected with EAC enabled (it doesn't work but allows me to play campaign etc.. so there's that.

Ooh, can you get achievements (or access the exchange) without the EAC workaround this way?

I just started it up, I'll fire it up again tomorrow and play a while and let you know!

Awesome! Any updates?

Still no splitscreen :P

More seriously, nothing changed. There's still a hack to get achievements and campaign progression without EAC, but no online play with EAC enabled.

There are a few references on https://areweanticheatyet.com/, but it has less info than this post. Here's their latest update.

What is this hack to get achievements working? There was a time I had it working but it broke long ago.

There is a replacement dll for eac. That also allows the game to load with EAC on, though you'll get kicked from online matches after a few seconds (I tried once, without realizing I still had it). I'd avoid online as I don't want a ban.

Does not appear to work any longer. I get a message about anti cheat hash not found when I start the game and no achievements appear to come through

You still have to start with EAC off, mind you.

I unlocked another achievement just a couple hours ago.

Ok, I'll try that. It said it didn't matter in the web page. Do you get the message about the EAC hash not found? I get even starting w/EAC disabled

Update: It's working now. I had to delete the eac.so file in addition to replacing the dll's. Thank you!
