A mixture of strategy and puzzling elements together, Xenospore is a currently free game about defending humanity by prevent a strange alien organism from spreading too far.

It's a tile-based game where you watch how the organism spreads, and try to prevent it. Each turn the alien spreads, and each turn you get to pick a tile to destroy or perhaps cleans as you desperately try to protect the housing. It has a wonderful dark atmosphere to it and the gameplay really does suck you right in.

Simple idea but styled wonderfully and the levels do make you think.

Quite a surprise to come across it on Twitter recently, as a game made with Godot that I hadn't heard of before.

The developer is currently working on a big new update for it too including explosive chain-reaction tiles, a stronger type of Xenospore and various other gameplay enhancements to give you more to do. The update will also have some quality of life improvements too like a fast turn option.

You can grab it free from itch.io. Play via the browser or scroll down the page for a download.

The graphics immediately remind me of Into The Breach, as does the description of it as turn-based and seemingly a sort of "puzzle" game. Would that be an apt comparison?
