PayPalValve has revealed what the most popular games were on Steam Deck for August 2022, so here's the list. Announced on Twitter, they have sorted it by hours played and it is once again full of unsurprising titles.
- Vampire Survivors
- Cult of the Lamb
- ELDEN RING
- Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered
- Stardew Valley
- No Man's Sky
- Hades
- Multiversus
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
- MONSTER HUNTER RISE
They are all some of the most popular games on Steam as a whole, so it directly translates to what people are playing on Steam Deck it seems. All pretty good choices too! Interestingly though, it's also made clear that for a game to be popular on Steam Deck it doesn't need to be fully Verified as multiple in the list are only tagged as Playable.

Yeah about the "playable" rating system. I've personally found it doesn't necessarily accurately reflect the title's playability.
For example, I accidentally dumped 70+ hours into Saints Row 2 (with mods like GoTR and proton) on the Steam Deck alone. However that game is actually tagged by Valve as incompatible with the Deck (It has the in valves testing this didn't work yadda yadda warning).
So personally, I'd suggest not using solely that rating system and instead just trying games and finding out for yourself.
For example, I accidentally dumped 70+ hours into Saints Row 2 (with mods like GoTR and proton) on the Steam Deck alone. However that game is actually tagged by Valve as incompatible with the Deck (It has the in valves testing this didn't work yadda yadda warning).
So personally, I'd suggest not using solely that rating system and instead just trying games and finding out for yourself.

Erm, no, like most of my 17 (not really) incompatibles, it's got the "Valve is still working on it" badge.

So I got some terminology wrong big deal. Either way it says "Unsupported" - which most people would take to mean "it doesn't work".

For most people, this does not mean "Yeah it works just fine".
If your average non-technical gamer saw this, they would think/believe the game doesn't work. My point was that the game works without Proton-GE and works with regular proton 7.0 without any proton tweaks[1].
[1] I installed the mod because the game has bugs that are present even on Windows, that mod simply fixes those.

You're right in saying that they marked it as unsupported.
But they also give reasons why they call something unsupported.
One e.g. is VR - they don't support VR on such a medium powered device.
Another one is anti-cheat which actually won't allow you to join servers in multi-player games.
The most interesting one, which is the case here, is "Valve is still working on adding support for this game on Steam Deck", which does not really mean it doesn't work.
All 14 games I've got with this reason are working all fine on my desktop Linux PC, most of them natively, and I am very optimistic that they work on Steam Deck, too. (Just got the Deck today, it's laying behind me, still in it's package.)
So yes, they are not supporting it - as of now -, yes, this looks like "doesn't work" for the average user, but no, they are not saying "in valves testing this didn't work". And I already had such games moving from Unsupported to Verified (or Playable, not sure).
*edit* Just saw the text "Some or all of this game currently doesn't function on Steam Deck" in your image. This is a general explanation what "Unsupported" is supposed to mean and is unsuitable for the actual reason for this game. But yes, Valve did a bad job here, again.
