The native port is fine, but it uses OpenGL, which works for you if your GPU doesn't have Vulkan support I suppose. I use Proton because DXVK seems to get a lot better performance. I also heard getting mods for this game is a lot easier thru Proton than the native port. Both are playable though and it's just down to preference.

I prefer the native port always. It incentives the developers care for linux and it's users. If we use the windows version its possible that they break "compatibility" with some update.

Oh, there is a comparison video, huh. That's very interesting. I can actually relate to the results shown there as being pretty accurate. OpenGL does bottleneck the game, though that's hardly the games' fault. It runs basically the same when compared to Proton or even Native Windows, so it's up to personal preference really.
Getting mods to work isn't really all that different. People have had issues in the past, in part due to libcurl4 incompatibilities ruining any chance of getting it to work, but it's fine now. Native modding doesn't work on Steam Deck due to Flatpaks' sandboxing, and my attempts to override it have not been fruitful.
Right now, the Native Port does have a bit of a problem with Mesa drivers being built against LLVM14/15 (which is to say, modern Fedora and Arch), but general Ubuntu and Mint installs won't be affected unless they use bleeding edge PPA's. Cpnversly, newer Proton builds cause a memory leak when running the game and (re)starting levels which sounds rather nasty.
Just some food for thought from a dual booter of the game since 2016.

So I tried to get this as a gift for a friend that is into the series but does not have all of the DLC and HB required that I add a phone number and informed that my account had to be reviewed before allowing the purchase.
