Out for a new desktop? Want one from a company that builds them for Linux and has their own Linux distribution? System76 just gave the Thelio line a nice big upgrade. Available across the Thelio and Thelio Mira, with the Thelio Major sticking to AMD Threadripper.
From the press release: "What sets the Thelio desktop line apart from other desktops is its system-specific thermal engineering. The internals are engineered for optimal airflow, allowing the user’s components to perform at their best. Now, with the addition of Intel and AMD’s latest processors, Thelio and Thelio Mira will see boosted performance thanks to enhancements from CPU manufacturers."
Even better, you can save a whole lot of monies right now too as System76 are running a Halloween-themed promotion where the more you upgrade the bigger the discount. This applies to desktops and laptops, so you don't have to grab a Thelio to save.
Current starting prices:
- Thelio: $949
- Mira: $999
- Major: $3,499
Quoting: PublicNuisanceStill no Coreboot support. Pass.
I'd love for this to be different but as far as I'm aware the MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 is the only "off-the-shelf" motherboard with coreboot support with the MSI PRO Z690-A DDR5 being worked on now. While that's now an older 12th gen board I'm at least hopeful that this standardization work around coreboot will ease future motherboard support.

Colour me highly sceptical of the benefits of this carry-over from laptops. This is an extremely competitive area of case/cooler design, making it doubtful that their engineering can approach existing off-the-shelf solutions, that would have had the additional advantage of adhering to standards.

I have the previous gen Thelio and that one is quiet and yet somehow keeps the internal temps down.
