Dome Keeper is one of my favourite indie releases this year, blending together casual underground mining with frantic base-defence and a new update just rolled out making it even more interesting.

One of the problems with the initial release, was that the underground mining wasn't as interesting as it could have been. This update should help a bit there with the addition of 4 new cave types and little critters that roam around in the mines. With the new caves you can make tunnels in all directions, expand your vision, improve your bedrock scanner to see beyond and even unleash a caged squid.

You can pick it up on Steam with the GOG version only being for Windows.

I'm looking forward to checking out the new content, once I eventually finish Mass Effect 3 (Legendary Edition) that I've been powering through on Steam Deck (with my EA app fix).

Best 2022 indie game. Made in Godot. Way too much addictive.

No Linux version on GOG?

The delay of the GOG version and now the (maybe?) delay of the Linux version on GOG is disappointing.

This game is so much fun. To me, it's the best indie game of the year, and the fact that it's done with Godot does influence my rating 😉

Guys who are waiting for the GOG release... It's over.
What do you think about that?

https://www.gog.com/forum/dome_keeper/linuxmacos_versions/post7
QuoteHi guys, I chatted with Renè the developer of the game on Discord and he said:
“ I didn't make the gog port myself, but iirc the wrapper for the gog SDK is only available for windows.
Supporting gog is considerable effort, too much if we'd be strictly realistic about it.”

So I replied:
“ So, one day it'll be available but not today, right?”

And then he said:
“ It most likely won't be available, because this is a technical limitation. Working around that would be much more effort than we can do without cutting content for everyone.”

So Linux and MacOS versions will never happen on GOG.

The usual. I don't really care about GOG SDK. Is it a multiplayer game? Why is it mandatory then?

Don't try to understand... It's a fucking solo game. This is just dishonest bullshit.
Seriously one of the worst excuses I read...

If you read between the lines, the answer is there. They used a wrapper for all the api stuff (likely an external one). The wrapper communicates with either the Steam or the GOG API but it has no fallback for a "no api" solution. And now the devs would need to go back to remove all that stuff manually in order to make it run without it.

Curious why this applied to mac though. I thought mac did have full support for the gog api.

So it means that my questionmark was right. That unfortunate for the developer.

Probably not supported by the 3rd-party wrapper. Developing anything for Apple systems is a chore and the effort is also running on a deprecation-timer each time.
