NVIDIA has released a fresh update to their stable driver series for Linux with 515.86.01 with some fixes.

Here's what's changed in version 515.86.01:

  • Updated the nvidia-settings control panel to correctly limit the allowed values for GPUTargetFanSpeed to match the existing valid fan speed ranges for supported NVIDIA GPUs. The valid ranges are 30%-100% for Ampere or newer GPUs, and 1%-100% for older GPUs.
  • Fixed a regression in 515.76 that caused blank screens and hangs when starting an X server on RTX 30 series GPUs in some configurations where the boot display is connected via HDMI.
  • Fixed a bug where Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered would sometimes crash with Xid 13 errors on Turing and later.

They're also being a bit confusing on the 525.53 that went into Beta earlier this month. Depending on where you look it's either Beta or it's not — both links are the same driver on different pages and one shows it not in Beta. Seems not even NVIDIA know what their own drivers are doing huh?

Hmm thats indeed confusing. We now have 525.53, 520.56.06, 515.49.25 and now this?

525.53 - newest beta
515.49.25 - latest vulkan dev driver
520.56.06 - Is what? newest stable?
515.86.01 - latest long term stable?

Im currently using 525.53 since its release and its been working wonderfully. no issues to report.

Great now they need to fix the Xid 109 error on 525.53 in some DX12 via VKD3D games and I am all happy :D

Hmm Can you name games with that issue. So far from my testing only issue is Serious Sam Siberian Mayhem (Vulkan) has some shadow flickering on trees. Rest of the games i have tried have had no problems, DXVK, VKD3D, Vulkan or OpenGL. Also is that issue reported to nvidia or vkd3d-proton to investigation?

What games i have tried with this driver
DXVK: Apex Legends, Shatterline, Max Payne 3, F.E.A.R. 2, WRC 10, Warhammer Online Return of Reckoning, Warhammer Vermintide 2.
VKD3D: Horizon Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk 2077, Metro Exodus Enhanched
Vulkan: Valheim, Splitgate, Serious Sam Siberian Mayhem (The shadow flicker)
OpenGL: Sector's Edge

edit: theres no Xid 109 even listed, the list ends with Xid 92 lol https://docs.nvidia.com/deploy/xid-errors/index.html

Launching Metro Exodus in "Safe mode" makes it work.

Regular Metro Exodus or Enhanced?
