Portal with RTX releases on December 8th

By -

Lightspeed Studios and NVIDIA have announced that the Portal with RTX free DLC will be release on December 8th. It's only been announced with a Windows build, so for Linux you'll need to run it with Proton.

As a reminder: this is NVIDIA attempting to bring another little showcase example, like they did with Quake II RTX, although that one actually had a Native Linux build. It's free for owners of Portal with it adding in full ray tracing, new, hand-crafted hi-res physically based textures, and new, enhanced high-poly models. It also includes support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.

This was made possible with their RTX Remix modding platform, that was announced back in September that makes use of DXVK to do a Vulkan conversion.

It can be found on Steam.

I'll probably have a little look at it, but with the given system requirements I highly doubt that a 2080 Ti can get playable framerates at 3440x1440.

i have a 3070 so i am pretty sure it can handle it in 4k even if i got to turn on dlss

I wish the "RTXOn" videos they put out would focus more on Raytracing then DLSS framerates. I don't care about DLSS framerates, I want Raytracing porn.

Amazing. Can't wait to replay this timeless classic when I grab a 7900XTX.
Oh...

Looking at these system requirements, I'm wondering if I'll enable DLSS and also fsr hack, would that even be possible? Would I be able achieve 60fps?

Latest I heard about it, DLSS 3 required an RTX 4000 series GPU... Does this DLC support previous versions of DLSS? If not, there is no hurry to publish a Linux version. RTX 4000 gpus are already a niche product, for the moment.

Edit: Personally, I'll wait for Valve to create it's own Raytracing build with a futur version of AMD FSR, approved for the Steam Deck it will have been designed for (Steam Deck 2? Steam Deck 3?). I feel absolutely no hype nor FOMO when it comes to raytracing. My wallet is most grateful.

Wish you good luck.

Calling ray tracing RTX is misleading, unless they mean it's going to work with Nvidia only. RTX refers to Nvidia only hardware that implements ray tracing.

Not holding my breath about performance with a 3090 either if its showcasing DLSS 3, DLSS is a fudge as hardware requirements for that RT beyond the physical capabilities of the GPU at 100% scaling stil in all probability, Look at Cyberpunk with RTX 30XX at 4K without DLSS will Portal be same for 40XX?
