Valve are working fast to clean up this New Big Picture Mode taken from the Steam Deck, with another Steam Client Beta for desktops out now.
There's now two different launch arguments you can use, depending on how you play with Steam. There's the original "-gamepadui" to launch directly into the newer Big Picture Mode but there's also now "-newbigpicture", which will start in desktop mode but allow you to launch into the new Big Picture Mode (so the button doesn't launch into the old one).
The full changes below:
General
- Fixed inaccurate regions where clicking would allow dragging the Friends List
- Fixed inaccurate location of context menus for the Friends List
New Big Picture Mode
- Added command-line argument -newbigpicture which will cause the Steam Client to use the New Big Picture Mode, while starting in Desktop mode. This is separate from -gamepadui, which will cause the Steam Client to start in the New Big Picture Mode.
- Fixed various issues where UI would show in the main window instead of the Overlay
- Added work-around for crash caused by older NVIDIA drivers that prevented showing additional information in the Settings => System panel
Steam Input
- The Xbox extended features driver has been updated for Windows 11
- Fixed hang when the Amazon Luna controller rumbles on macOS
Remote Play
- Fixed glyphs for third party Nintendo controllers while streaming

Hmmm... with the "-newbigpicture" mode I'm missing all the custom artwork I've added to my non-Steam games. With "-gamepadui" everything looks ok.
Time to write another bug report. Good thing is: Valve is currently very responsive when it comes to bug fixing.

I'm confused. It doesn't work. I already use:
prime-run steam
in a launcher. So where do I put those arguments? I thought that the proper place would be at the end, but it doesn't make any difference (I am running Steam beta). So I tried it before steam, also no change. Before prime-run? That would make no sense, or maybe? I checked and... again no change...

prime-run "steam -newbigpicture"
No, also doesn't do anything. From what I heard, this doesn't work on nvidia cards and that is the reason.

Quoting: michaldybczakYeah, I get the start up sound and a box that is transparent. Granted, I also run at 3840x1200. I could guess it doesn't much like that.Quoting: EikeMaybe this?

But that's what the current version does for most Nvidia setups. I don't think it has anything to do with prime.
