Want to win a Steam Deck? Valve directly are giving you quite a few chances, with a whole bunch of them being given away during The Game Awards.

Taking place on December 8th at 5PM PST / 1AM UTC (according to the Steam page) all you have to do is watch it on Steam.tv, live in either US / Canada / UK or the EU and have made a purchase on Steam between November 14, 2021 and November 14, 2022 to have your country verified. Oh, and of course have a Steam account that's in good standing and not limited from being naughty.

As the show airs, every minute a random name will be pulled from people watching it who will win one 512GB Steam Deck. Considering it goes on for quite some time (multiple hours), that's going to be a lot of winners.

There will also be a big sale, along with playable demos for the event.

Do note that the pre-show starts 30 minutes earlier, but the main show (and giveaway) starts at the time noted above.

To sweeten the deal, everyone who registers for it will get an animated Steam Pal digital sticker:

What is that in GMT? (don't forget about your European brethren and sistren)

UTC is the same time as GMT.

I'm sure there's a huge astronomical difference, but counted by the hour, that's true... :)

Cool, I'll be working then. I guess I could put it on in the background on my phone? As long as it doesn't require you to respond or anything if your name is called...

Good luck to everyone else!

If it's anything like the Steam Deck reservation mails, you'll need to respond in 30 seconds.
On vacation (Deck reservation) or toilet (stream)? Bad luck...!

You’re good:
Quoting: Giveaway rulesWinners will be announced using their Steam persona name, on The Game Awards 2022 Giveaway prize page, no later than December 23, 2022.
[...]
Steam Deck winners will also be notified by email to the email address associated with the winning Steam account; in that email, Valve may request shipping information for the sole purpose of delivering a Steam Deck prize to such winners.

You can also participate with a mail-in entry if you can’t watch the event live.

Thanks!!
BTW, where did you find that? I was looking around the page in the link from the article, but I must have missed it.
As long as I don't have to respond right away, I might turn it on in my vehicle, turn the volume down, and let it run while I'm working.

And not email. You have to send actual quill-to-parchment and french-kiss a postage stamp mail.

That seems kind of odd. Some sort of legal requirement?

Yes.

In the contest rules linked at the bottom. Being privacy-conscious, I always read giveaway rules and often decide to pass, but this is the least invasive one I’ve seen in... possibly ever, if we’re talking about company-run contests only. So kudos to Valve in this one.

The mail-in, no-purchase entry is a typical requirement here in Canada and I assume in the US as well. Their format specification is really odd indeed, though. Perhaps made specifically to discourage people from actually using that option :P

Ha, it's like the only relevant thing left from the British Empire, they are at the center of the time zones!
