Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas from GamingOnLinux

By -

Some of you might have noticed over December our little friendly Penguin logo gained a fancy hat to keep warm, it's that time of the year again.

Time for GamingOnLinux to slow right down to a crawl, so that I can get some personal time off too. So don't be alarmed if you see nothing or just very few here and there (outside of bigger stuff — if any) for a week+ or so, as we all deserve a little time off for the holidays right? Time to blow off some steam and get refreshed ready for another year of news and exciting developments for Linux, SteamOS, Steam Deck, gaming, industry news, open source and everything else that is covered here.

2022 has been quite a year hasn't it? This has probably been the most interesting and busiest year by every measure on record. Mostly thanks to all the work Valve is doing in Proton (and related projects), Steam Deck and SteamOS which benefits everyone trying to game on Linux. You can see my end of year article on the Steam Deck over here, and read about my GOTY here.

For GamingOnLinux, it's been a huge year too with the YouTube Channel hitting close to 30K followers now. I'm genuinely shocked at how that has just rocketed upwards in subscribers and continues at a nice pace. Be sure to also follow along on Mastodon, or for just the news without my extra spicy takes and glorious memes there's the main RSS feed (and every article tag also has a feed too!).

Just a reminder, that I would appreciate any and all support you can give and you can find out all the ways how on the Support Us page.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a wonderful New Year. Here's to a fun 2023! Now where did I put that Steam Deck…?

I opened holiday season with a shock: Installed Steam Deck stable update, put it back in the case. Two or three hours later it jumped from the car's window shelf. I thought it wanted to be played with, but it was dying from heat. It hadn't shut down and even smelled of molten plastic.

It still works, but...

We still need the obligatory 2023 predictions and wish-list!
