The work going into the open source Mesa graphics drivers continues on, with AMD Ray Tracing picking up speed and they're going to enable Quake II RTX and Doom Eternal support by default now.
Currently you can turn it on manually, but now they're moving to add specific games known to work into a list. These two games are just the start. On the GitLab Merge Request, developer Bas Nieuwenhuizen noted in reply to a question on why just these and why not default for all:
Because it is not ready, in particular we're missing Daniel's shader calling work and some more game debugging.
However, it feels worth it to start enabling some games we know to work, so that people can start playing.
This work should be available in Mesa 23.0 due later this year.

It's nice to see some more movement on this, as it's been a long time coming for those sticking with the open source Mesa drivers.
