Lots more EA games get a Steam Deck Playable rating

By -

Valve has again continued to go through various EA games that were previously problematic on Steam Deck due to the new EA App, with lots of them now marked as Steam Deck Playable.

They only just recently tweaked a few others including Battlefield 1, Jedi Fallen Order, Sims 4 and Titanfall 2 and so they've continued on now. Nice to see Valve are acting on all their work going into Proton for improving Windows to Linux compatibility for games. I'm surprised it took this long though.

Here's all the latest games I've found that have been bumped up to Playable with them now using Proton Experimental by default since that has all the EA App fixes:

  • A Way Out
  • Battlefield 4
  • Battlefield V
  • It Takes Two
  • Madden NFL 21
  • Madden NFL 22
  • Madden NFL 23
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda Deluxe Edition
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition
  • Mirror's Edge Catalyst
  • Need for Speed Heat
  • Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered
  • Need for Speed Most Wanted
  • Need for Speed Rivals
  • Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2: Deluxe Edition
  • Unravel Two

This long list only goes to show just how much of a ridiculous nuisance third-party launchers on Steam can be. There's often simply no need for them, other than extra advertising for big publishers. One day, I hope this repeating launcher problem gets solved for good, it's frustrating to have games work great and then suddenly one update later they're full of issues because of an extra launcher.

(the joke is that these games I mentioned above have invasive anti cheat)

It has been my impression that most games with launchers have a "skip-launcher" launch option, starting straight into the game?

Even on something like an old stable Linux native game like Stellaris, you can of course run into trouble with the launcher and launcher updates etc....

To be clear, this is not a problem with Linux. Even Windows users are having problems with this launcher, so Valve is going above and beyond for this.

They are a ridiculous nuisance, period. Not just on Steam. :D

Glad to see that their stuff is (halfway) working now, though. Particularly considering that many of these games are meant to be played with a controller.

It's borderline anti-consumer. I wouldn't be too bothered if these things were regulated out of existence.
