System76 saw your many comments and they're going to deliver. The Pangolin is making a return, powered by all AMD.
Every time they announce something, there's plenty of comments here and across the web asking them for more AMD units and so the Pangolin will deliver with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor and AMD Radeon 680M graphics too. If that's not enough to make you drool it also has a 144Hz display, with compatibility for DDR5 RAM and PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. They also bumped up the battery to 70Wh with a claim of "up to" 10 hours battery life, but possibly longer.
All sounds pretty good!
Over email they also mentioned they heard your privacy calls, so it will also have a physical hardware privacy switch to fully disable both the webcam and microphone.

Oh but the beast is lovely. I have issues with the promiscuity between pangolins and people though. Especially chinese people.
I'd like pangolins to not return and just be left where they naturally belong.

And it's so better lookin than this S76 Pangolin.
But it still is quite expensive...A 2000+ € laptop with no dedicated GPU is a bit high for me. Even if the Radeon 680M is a very good iGPU.

Regardless of this vs the Starfighter, it's terrific to live in an age of high quality Linux hardware choices (S76, Starfighter, Tuxedo/Slimbook, HP Dev One, Dells, Framework, etc) 
.
That said, as someone who has purchased two S76 laptops in the past, has used 3:2 and 16:10 displays for my last few laptops, and has a Starfighter on order, I personally won't go back to 16:9 for something of significant cost. Waiting for S76 to update those displays....

And that's not even considering the still occurring scaling issues...
I find the pangolin quite interesting, now i only would need to be in the market for a laptop ^^

With higher refresh rate you probably won't save battery life anyway, but regardless of battery life, the higher refresh rate definitely gives you more visual improvement than the higher resolution.

I don't game on my PC, so a high refresh rate isn't a priority for me.
I prefer a 4K+ display, because it's scales nicely at a 2:1 ratio.
I worked on a Macbook Pro with "Retina Display" for 5 years and I really got acustomed to the sharpness of HiDPI screen, and a 16/10 ratio.
I wanted to leave Apple to go the Linux way, but I really needed a close enough spec'ed PC to make the switch.
I eventually bought an Asus Vivobook Pro 16X OLED, with a 4K+ OLED display, which runs Ubuntu quite well.
Still, it's not "Linux native", but it's good enough. I keep my eye on the Starfighter though.
