One Valve game that is clearly unstoppable is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, their first-person shooter from 2012 just keeps growing. Being free to play certainly helps too of course.

Hitting a new all-time high for online players at ~1,320,219 on February 11th, it just smashed it again at 1,324,800 players online on February 19th. You can see all the info on SteamDB charts, which clearly shows it's doing well. Before that, the last time it broke the record was back in April at 1,308,963 players online.

No doubt a continued nice earner for Valve (not that they need it…) with all the cases you can buy, and while free to play it still has a Prime Status Upgrade for £11.99 which is needed for Ranked Matchmaking and earning XP.

Valve also just recently released the Revolution Case, featuring 17 weapon finishes from community artists and the gloves from the Clutch Case as rare special items. On top of that there's also the new Espionage Sticker Capsule, with 21 unique stickers from Steam Workshop artists. Additionally they also added in the Denzel Curry ULTIMATE music kit, featuring Denzel’s hits "Walkin", "ULTIMATE" and more from his 2022 album "Melt My Eyez See Your Future".

CS:GO truly has some impressive staying power for what's quite an old game now.

Are you still playing CS:GO? How many hours do you have in it now?

I still think that CS:GO is not part of the CS family, and one of my biggest pet peeves is the disabled friendly fire outside competitive games. (I will not mention the huge amount of cheaters).

I only played 900 hours but it pays for the other games (selling crates and stuffs − also it is considered gambling in France to buy keys to open them).

I raged again and purged it from the hard drive. People are so toxic on MM. And the 'casual' mode is a joke, i don't understand why you can't choose the maps like in mm i'd much rather play vertigo with the same 10 people than being forever stuck on mirage... I clock in around 1k hours over the 10 years (well more like 6 years since the port was crap for like 4-5 years after i bought it so i never touched it) In addition to no friendly fire being able to walk through players is also a big problem, since half the time you die trying to peek and shoot while teammates walk through you. The community server browser is crap too - dont know how they managed to fuck that up since it was working just fine even in 1.6. To me it would be more fun than source but not nearly as good as 1.6. I feel the community was far less toxic a few years back, not everybody was super serious and there were less griefers. If there were more active servers i think i'd still rather play 1.6.

628 hours so far. stopped playin at early 2022 thus bad internet connection. overall 100ms
my second best fps game. and it bring a lot to gaming industry. Just like AI functionality as cs 1.1 and cs 1.4
also CS:GO is just an AAA example. Also "first of many native linux games".

Never been a fan to be honest, always played Source the most, love the graphics on Source.

Happy to hear it's free and still alive and kicking.

I know the feeling, I pre-ordered it and followed closely the dev updates but when I finally first tried it I was so disappointed that it took me at least 2 years to try again and I play mostly with the same friends since 1999.

Doesn't CSGO let you pick a map at the end of every match? Also you can start a vote to change map, which can be used to play the same map after game ends.
I played it for a short while then got bored, I play Apex when I have time.

I enjoy it, but I would enjoy it more if there were Surf + Deathmatch + RPG servers like on Counter Strike Source.

The RPG part is really important -- it's cheesy and so much fun, GFLClan used to host some but for some reason in CSGO I just can't find any RPG ones.

They used to have the best borderline garbage cheese maps -- like Spongebob Crusty Crab World and Buck Wild.

If anyone knows of any, please share.

Have they fixed the hidden mouse cursor bug on the community server tab ? that's been around 8 years now.
Have they fixed the community map browser yet so you can actually play custom games on community servers ? That's been about 9 years now.

It's why i still play CS:Source for the community server and custom games aspect (prop hunt, Zombie escape, Zombie Hunting etc..) which are really fun. Even though those exact servers have mostly migrated to CS:GO and it's newer engine, leaving me with only a dwindling number of servers left to play on.

They could show CS:GO Linux a bit more love TBH whilst they are making handfuls of cash on the product. It would probably take around 15 minutes to fix.

Agree. After a little poking looks like here's the bug report

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/1743

I am able to get the mouse to appear after clicking and dragging and mashing some random buttons -- ctrl, escape, space, right click left click.

Someone told me to press shift like 5 times once and that worked but doesn't seem to work now.

Comparing 2023 CSGO to 2016ish -- it was a major nightmare, now it's still bad but doable since I can get the mouse to appear.

I am mostly sad about the maps, content and servers left behind -- I am not able to find and RPG Surf servers with less than 250 ping :(

So looking at the comments, apparently nobody likes or plays CS:GO. I guess the massive stats are all just bots playing bots.

I don't like CS:GO. I like the Insurgency games far better.

Walk around a corner and die instantly? Then wait for the round to end? Give me a break. The Battlefield games were always way more up my alley. More dynamic combat and objectives.
