The internet is currently buzzing about mentions of Left 4 Dead 3 appearing in files for the upcoming Counter-Strike 2. So apparently Valve can count to 3 — not the 3 the majority of their fans will want I imagine but still, why is it there at all in a huge upgrade for CS:GO?
Mentioned in a Reddit post, it shows up with some curious strings:
This has led some other news sites to run headlines like "Left 4 Dead 3 is a non-priority", because it makes for a great bit of clickbait, even though it also says the severity is "high". Realistically, no one outside of Valve will even know what these strings are actually doing.
Left 4 Dead 2 is easily one of my absolute favourites from Valve, so I'm cautiously excited over this. Clearly Valve are slowly getting back into actual games. We had the fantastic (and one of my all-time favourite experiences) with Half-Life: Alyx, Counter-Strike 2 coming this Summer and then who knows what? Valve hit a home-run with the Steam Deck as well, and clearly what has been announced for Counter-Strike 2 has a lot of people excited so it would be good to see them keep up this momentum.
What do you think? Might we get a Left 4 Dead 3 announcement at some point?
Quoting: pmatulkaSorry for off-topic but I am puzzled why Valve named next CS game Counter-Strike 2.
There was: Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike Source, Counter-Strike Condition Zero, Counter-Strike GO and next will be Counter-Strike 2. How? Is Valve really don't like number 3 so much?
Nah, they do not dislike #3. They just had... CS 1.6... CS:GO basically 1.9 series... and now finally turn for CS2. Can't go to third without second. HL3 (and other) must be first.
Quoting: KlaasIf there really is a file with the content included in CS2, someone might have put it there as a joke. Its not April yet...
Can it be, that Half Life 3 is... possible????

I kinda makes sense, as the last CS with a number in the title is CS 1.6. The other CS had some titles to them. So there technically has not been a CS 2, yet. On the other hand it would make more sense to call it CS:GO 2. But as there has not been a CS 2, yet and CS:GO is the wildly known "Counter Strike" right now, I think it's logical that they call CS:GO 2 Counter Strike 2.

Quoting: M@GOidL4D2 is overrated. There is nothing special in that game. And I did not played over 3000 hours of it. No sir.
I used to like that game for half an hour or so. I seldom finished an entire level (I just played single player). My favourite was the swamp level, I'd have been more likely to finish all the parts of that one.
They did a lot of work on that game years later. However, they dumbed down the ONE thing that actually amused me about that game. The gore! It used to be utterly over the top, now it's modest.

Haha, you got me!
I'm still curious about what they may do with 3, though frankly I'm doubtful that it will ever see the light of day.
dont get me wrong i would love to have some extra buttons on my keyboard, but they are a bit anoying in game controler, i feel the urge to press then even if they do nothing, sure having multiple buttons to do the same thing or configure some shortcut like screen shot is an option, but i would really like to see an game that take advantage of all controls without being an tech demo like the arpeture mini game.
