The absolutely charming building-puzzle adventure game LEGO Bricktales is getting a free content update ready for Easter. Quite a lovely game overall, and great for a younger audience too — why should adults get all the fun?

From the email sent to me here's what's coming:

  • A beautifully crafted Easter diorama.
  • A storyline where you have to help the Easter bunny save Easter.
  • 5 new construction puzzles. Four with a specific challenges and one being an open area where you can build more freely.
  • 1 collection quest - Easter eggs will be hidden in the other existing worlds that you can find and use to purchase items.
  • 3 new wardrobe items (purchasable with eggs players have found in the world).
  • 1 new music track.
  • A new menu entry to notify you of ongoing updates.

No date is being given for the update just yet but they did additionally explain: "The LEGO® Bricktales free Easter update introduces an egg-cellent new story set in a small Easter world. This world becomes accessible if the player has cleared the first world (Jungle). On completion, an entrance will appear in the park leading you to the new diorama where you’ll meet the friendly Easter bunny who has a problem with making eggs for this year’s Easter celebration. Disgruntled chickens and snow damage keep them from reaching their goals, so you will need to use your quick thinking and puzzle-solving abilities to help them save Easter."

It's on my wishlist, ooh, and it's on sale until March 6. I quite enjoyed LEGO Builder's Journey, sooo…why do you keep doing this to my poor wallet, Liam? What did it ever do to you?

Fake edit: Oh, it's also <1 GB, nice and small.

Why has it got a better discount on Steam than on Gog? 🤔

It got as far as my library a while back (Linux native, so full price purchase), but there were too many other things to take up my little one's attention at the time so I didn't install it. I've done so now, and he seems to be having a great time with it.

Edit: Oh. According to the Steam forums, you can't change the controls away from WASD, which is obviously a huge flaw. It doesn't currently affect us because the little one's playing on the Deck, but it's a kick in the teeth for anyone that wants to play it on desktop PC.

ESDFers, southpaws, and the French are particularly affected. I've put a nudge on their forum (in case they don't realise that it's important) and a tutorial video on how to do adjustable key bindings in Unity (in case they just don't know how), but the low number of reviews and comment threads suggests it hasn't sold all that well so they might just not bother even with those bits of information. It's a shame.

Will do. I've gotten sidetracked by PlateUp! again right after installing*, but I'll try to get around to reporting back before the sale ends.

*One of the best flow-state-producing games for me in years.

Just the way you said that made it sound like the setup to a joke. "An ESDFer, a southpaw, and a French person walk into a gaming convention…" But seriously, good on ya for reporting that, and especially for providing information about how to fix it.

Ah. They've today put up a request for feedback, so I think I'll go through the survey with my little one and highlight that deficiency in a PC game. Maybe they will spare the dev resources to fix it after all?

Did they add support for multiple save slots? That was the other thing that was blatantly missing at release.

I bought the game yesterday, and I'm loving it! One thing that I find a bit annoying though, is that the screen occasionally flickers a bit when playing, and I have no idea what's causing it. The game has also frozen on me on the splash screen a couple of times, but other than that, it works smoothly.
