No Man's Sky works great on Linux desktop and Steam Deck with Proton and now I need to jump back in because the Interceptor update sounds great. Update: a small patch went up in version 4.20.1 shortly after, to fix issues on Steam Deck.
Some of what's in the update includes: the new procedurally generated Sentinel Interceptor ships you can salvage to add to your collection, corrupted planets to visit full of strange things to discover, VR interface improvements, system authority ships now get procedurally generated, multiple new special corrupted enemies to fight, some enemies can now use cloaking, a new type of jet-pack, new ship components, Sentinel quadruped combat units got a big scary overhaul, new multi-tools, new sentinel capital ship battles and the list goes on…

Continuing their big free upgrades, Hello Games impresses once again. It's no surprise that it's one of the most played games on Steam Deck.
You can buy it on Humble Store and Steam.
Have many GamingOnLinux readers been playing No Man's Sky either on desktop or Steam Deck? Let us know what you think in the comments.
Quoting: egeeHeck yeah. Great game keeps getting better. iirc it's used Vulkan since day 1 so it's basically always run pretty good on Linux. They started with OpenGL but updated to Vulkan. Took them a bit to get good performance, but nowadays it's really good.

It is a great example of why native linux doesn't make much of a difference especially when a game uses vulkan. Unfortunately this often isn't apparent because many developers treat vulkan as a very low priority (looking at you Baldur's Gate 3).
I'm excited for this, those ships look very cool, NMS is always good relaxing fun. As much as I love it I've long been frustrated by how little they've been able to improve the experience of actually flying ships (though, mercifully, they did finally somewhat reduce the stupid asteroids... they should have reduced it a lot more). I also think the ship generation scheme could use a drastic overhaul. Trying to find a cool ship, which should be the most exciting thing in the game, by sitting at a trade port and watching them go by for half an hour, and then to wind up with a ship so poorly differentiated from what you already had is pretty bad. I would really love it if they did something significant here, but at the very least looks like I'll have another nice looking ship to fly.

Offtopic, freeorion released version 0.5 https://github.com/freeorion/freeorion/releases/tag/v0.5 for those of us who like keeping track of FLOSS games also :)
Quoting: Liam DaweNo Man's Sky got a quick patch to fix it crashing on Steam Deck, article updated."You can't take the sky from me" (unless it crashes)
I sometimes play it but ultimately the gameplay can feel a bit sterile at times.
Quoting: TheRiddickIt's a decent game, certainly brings the arcade feel to the sandbox game world.

This. I ended up playing the story line and then stopping. There just wasn't enough to keep me engaged from an exploration point of view.
Checking the Steam forums, it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem. Right as soon as the world/character is supposed to appear, the game vanishes and I'm back to Steam. Hopefully they'll address whatever's causing it soon.
