POSTAL 2 from Running With Scissors just had a big upgrade for the 20th anniversary and there's lots of improvements to this classic violent first-person adventure.

Quite possibly one of the most ridiculous games ever made, there's so many terrible things you can do in it which is great if you love a bit of dark humour. Not me of course, you would never find me laughing at the ability to give yourself the middle finger in a mirror.

The Native Linux release appears to work just fine on Fedora 38

Here's all the new stuff they added:

  • Fully compatible with Steam Deck!
  • 'Two Weeks In Paradise' game mode! (Paradise Lost)
  • Classic Mode! (+ 'Options' Menu)
  • Reworked New Game menu with brand new Day Selection and Skip Intro options!
  • New “Ludicrous” difficulty!
  • Added Quit to Desktop option!
  • David Eddings (The original voice of Claptrap from the Borderlands series) as the voice of Pisstrap in Paradise Lost!
  • Crackola (dual-wield power-up) and Weapons Vending Machines added to P2 levels!
  • The Flipping the Bird feature from PL is now available in P2! This can be performed with a new dedicated button ('G' by default) or by pressing Fire with Empty Hands or Alt Fire with the Petition and other weapons that replace the hands
  • Added a few new cheats: ChugIt, ParadiseIsLost, SeekritWeaponzPls, DoubleTheGun, PeeAll, PukeAll, HereKittyKitty!
  • Added unique behavior for Cat Silencers made out of experimental cats! (Apocalypse Weekend)
  • When you pick up a thrown Scythe or Sledgehammer, it will now auto-switch back to this weapon!
  • Added support for customizable Weapon Selector and Inventory Menu!
  • NPCs weapon variety option! (random chance of using Eternal Damnation guns)
  • Restored some unused POSTAL Dude voice lines!
  • Expanded Crosshair Customization!
  • Saves with * mark for cheating or Workshop Game are now displayed in yellow color to be more noticeable!
  • New effects for Catnip and food use!
  • Added Cat Launcher! (Super-fun cheat only weapon)

There's various other improvements too including plenty of bug fixes. Really nice to see this update land, should make it feel a lot better on modern systems.

On Steam Deck specifically, they seem to have done some nice touches like giving a customized controls screen and overall it seems to work great out of the box now. Click screenshots to enlarge.

Full update notes can be seen on Steam.

You can buy it on Humble Store and Steam.

Certainly not! Perish the thought.

Hell yeah, it's time to finish Paradise Lost expansion!

This is actually some cool news.

I like this game, but the company have been working on fixing some aspects of the game (including it's overall bugginess) is still amazing.

No matter how terrible this game can be (morally speaking), it's amazing how it's postal game (also put against the first Postal game).

It's one of those experience, like sure it's janky, but it's not something you'll get elsewhere.

Native has better performance by quite a margin, so native is the way to go. We're finally rewarded for supporting Linux all these years later (it was never a profitable thing in the past, just more a passion project to keep our games native Linux). The only exception to that is if you're playing on a windows desktop too and want cross save support. We do plan on fixing it in the future so Windows and Linux support cross cloud save on Steam.

I like this game!

Thank you for the update.

I don't know about sales of Postal by Loki. I have always thought that you had a small success with Postal 2 from LGP:

Postal 2 became Linux Game Publishing's fastest selling game in its first month, and contributed greatly to the continuing profitability of the company

I still have this version from LGP.

When do you plan to release this game on GOG?

Thank you for making this game :)
Native runs very well so far.. Its been long time since i played it last time, but damn those zone loadings are now like 1-2 sec. I remember back in the days zoning was long long wait :)

Ah yeeees, Postal 2: Paradise Lost. The only game in which you can set midgets on fire en masse

Final verdict: 11/10

Right on. Mad respect. Played this game when I was far too young to do so. Thank you for getting me into so much trouble. It was worth it.

These fine people, with a 20-year old game with a probably vastly obsolete code base, are putting other studios "unable" to ensure proper native Linux versions to shame.

One of the few companies worthy of respect. Kudos to you !

Steam Deck, yay, I'm going to try it!

Too bad the update is only available on Steam. I still have the CD lying around here somewhere. On the RWS website you can pick up the game for $2 so not a huge cost in any case.

I have the Fudge Pack, years ago they said they would give Steam keys to those that owned it. Maybe try emailing them?

Hey Toploader, any chance of seeing the Linux version end up on the Zoom platform?
StoneColdSpider Apr 19, 2023
Now I feel old.......

So its been 20 years since the game was refused classification here in Australia and I had to ring up RWS directly by the old fashioned phone and spoke to Vince Desi and Mike J and got them to send me a copy through the old fashioned snail mail.......

RWS was kind enough to sign the box for me..... I still have that signed box on my shelf...... And I got a RWS metal sign with real bullet holes in it

I also had to call them again on the phone to get the again refused classificationed Apocalypse Weekend and then for a third time to get one of those cool heat activated mugs that looks plain black but when you add hot liquid to it shows the RWS logo.......

Oh and I also had to call them to get a copy of the Postal movie...... Yes I own a copy of the Postal movie......

My dog was even featured on the front page of their website.......

Vince Desi and Mike J were crazy bastards back then and Im pretty sure they still are now.......

Thanks for all the memories guys

That is cool. Do you have a picture of this version of Postal and the link to this section on their website?
