Even with all the talk about 8GB VRAM simply not being enough now for all the new games coming out, we're still seeing multiple launches with it. Now with the AMD Radeon RX 7600 priced at $269.

Announced today by AMD and availability actually tomorrow, May 25th with partners including ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire, PowerColor, Vastarmor, XFX and Yeston.

From the press release:

“Currently, 65% of gamers surveyed are playing at 1080p and the majority are still using older graphics cards, unable to take advantage of the latest performance and visual-enhancing features that deliver the best gaming experiences,” said Scott Herkelman, senior vice president and general manager, Graphics Business Unit at AMD. “AMD offers a range of graphics solutions at different price points, memory configurations and performance levels to support a variety of gamers’ needs. The Radeon RX 7600 graphics card at US $269 hits the sweet spot for high-performance 1080p gaming. It allows users to enjoy the latest features like AV1 encoding, the AMD Radiance Display Engine and more to take their gaming, streaming and content creation projects to the next level.”

VRAM size aside, the price to performance ratio seems pretty reasonable here. No review from me though, as AMD don't send over hardware ever and don't reply to emails even just to be on their press list either despite repeated attempts. I email them every product launch to complete silence.

Most importantly - what do you make of the specs and price? Will this be your next GPU?

Quoting: PhlebiacBesides the (always useful) phoronix benchmarks, I also find this helpful in finding good value:
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html

It doesn't have data for the latest models just yet, but you can see that the RX 6650 XT is a great value; I considered one a few months back, but got a good deal on a 3060Ti.
That's the main GPU researching tool I use myself. Love it. I go to the High End chart and then scroll down until I see one at the price point I'm willing to spend.

And yeah, I agree that 8 GB is still fine for 1080p. I can play any of the recently released 3D games with 60-100 FPS and high or max settings.

Quoting: F.UltraAs absurd as it might sound, 8GB is really holding the nVidia cards back: 16GB vs. 8GB VRAM: Radeon RX 6800 vs. GeForce RTX 3070, 2023 Revisit

It's not really absurd if you take into account that something like browser takes VRAM too. And common use case shares games with regular desktop operation. So 8 GB VRAM is getting old indeed.

I just checked. Just regular KDE session with Firefox opened takes already 1.5 - 2 GB of VRAM. And that's not the limit.

Quoting: MiZoGPhoronix benchmarked rx 7600 on Linux already
While slightly faster than the Rx 6600, there isn't enough difference to even think about switching. Though it appears to be cheaper than my Rx 6600 was a year ago (unless those $270 are excluding VAT, in which case there's no difference either, meaning it's still too much for what it offers).

Considering you can get a used 6700 XT (12GB) for $275, I can't see how it's worth it.
