Today there's a new build of Proton Experimental available for Steam Deck and desktop Linux gamers, with it Valve has given us a bunch of bug fixes. With there now being many different Proton versions it can get a bit confusing, so head on over to my beginner's guide on Steam Play and Proton for more info.

Here's the main changes added in this build for May 26th:

  • Fixed Last Labyrinth displaying only a black screen on the Steam Deck.
  • Fixed Creativerse not being able to connect to a local game with a VPN connection active.
  • Fixed The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing not rendering text in Polish correctly.
  • Fixed a few Proton 8.0 regressions:
    • BeamNG.drive no longer crashes when a steering wheel is connected.
    • Cafe Stella no longer crashes with 2 elements on the flowchart.
    • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered no longer ignores controller input.
    • Indiana Jones and The Emperor no longer crashes on the splash screen.
  • Fixed game looking dark and improved performance with Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi.
  • Fixed DXVK HUD not showing the correct git revision used.

Changelog is over here.

How to change your Proton version:

Steam Deck:

  • Pick a game in your Library and head to the little cog icon on the right.
  • Click Properties, then Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.

On a Linux desktop:

  • Right click a game, go to Properties.
  • Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.

Coolio. I was hoping, among the many fixes, I'd see something addressing Shadow of The Tomb Raider crashing when Shadow Quality is changed to anything but 'Off.'

If you turn the shadow quality to off, does it just become the original Tomb Raider?

Hee! Or considering the grammar, the game could disappear entirely!

Praying for the entire Yuzusoft games, especially Tenshi Souzou once it comes out, to no longer need protontricks wmp11 and everything including the movies just works out of the box.
