Originally released on Steam back in February, Dark Chess now has a Native Linux version available and it brings some interesting sounding adjustments to the classic to really change how you play. It's Chess but perhaps nothing like what you know it to be.

Adding in Fog of War and a story campaign, it takes the basics of Chess and then flips the whole board. Linux support came along with an update adding in macOS support too and enhancing the lighting.

You can see a full bit of gameplay from the developer in the below video:

Interesting to see it was on their roadmap, and Steam Deck users will be happy to see their support is planned too!

My first experience with Linux happened when I came across Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, back than we couldn't get much games up and running using programs like Wine was a nightmare really despite all of its praise. Nor were there any websites like this one. Fast forward to today, I got my Debian 12 set up like a dream, everything works the way I want it too. I really appreciate "Gaming On Linux" as I use it to find interesting games that I would have otherwise missed or wouldn't know off. Got my Steam app installed and bought Dark Chess, works perfectly fine. It is amazing to see how much everything has changed in just a decade. Thanks to Valve and its development of Steam for Linux we now finally able to experience so many games that would run natively without any issues. At last we can do everything on Linux without missing out on anything!
