I have to admit I am a little bit excited by this. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is now confirmed to be coming to Steam. So we could be playing classic Metal Gear on Linux desktop and Steam Deck with Proton very soon.

The collection will release on October 24th and include Metal Gear Solid (including VR / Special Missions), MGS 2: Sons of Liberty (HD Collection version) and MGS 3: Snake Eater (HD Collection version)) as the main games. Plus extras of Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear (NES/FC version) and Snake's Revenge.

This was confirmed in an official video:

I have such fond memories of playing Metal Gear Solid on the original PlayStation. Being able to play them easily (hopefully) thanks to Proton on my desktop or on the go with my Steam Deck is going to be pretty great.

Will you be picking it up?

Quoting: sarmadMGS 3 gameplay is quite different from MGS, MGS 2 has a different protagonist, while MGS V is open world!
You've potentially missed that MGS 3 & 5 have a different protagonist to 1 & 4
Spoiler, click me
and that 5 has a different protagonist to 3

Quoting: ArehandoroMetal Gear Solid 3 has never been available on PC. There is also a remake on the making for Metal Gear Solid 3 (perhaps not the remake people wanted), and there are rumours that is only the first of the main trilogy because it makes sense chronologically. The code in the Konami's website apparently* shows that there will also be a Master Collection 2 including the never released on PC MGS4.
3 on PC will be interesting, but it depends entirely on how they manage it. I just don't see the effort going into it based on the video. I've gotten hyped up for other game ports before and been completely deflated when the finished product barely runs at all on high end hardware, or fails to be any better than a basic emulator.

Quoting: ArehandoroLast, but not least, I'm always puzzled with the community expecting some remakes, and giving more importance to them that to new titles, like if was the only way for them to enjoy a game. Let's not allow companies dictate when is good to replay a game :(
I'm entitled to my own opinion, but I know for a fact that a large portion of the MGS fandom would love a well made remake of MGS with modern sensibilities, moreso now that Capcom is making their old games into modern hits. I spent 80 hours in RE4R and can easily see myself doing the same in a similar MGS remake.

Also, a lot of the "get it working" re-releases of classic games have been full of issues, performance being a big one. I'm just hoping they actually do the work to make it a more enjoyable experience than running the game in an emulator. There are unofficial HD texture packs coming out for a lot of these games.

Cool,
I loved the original PS1 game but after that there were too many "Stealth" genre games and I got fed up with it so didn't play any since.
Of course I have them all on my Deck and Ally via emulation but so many other things ahead of them in the queue....this release can make them jump up that queue.

Good to see them make a collection with the original MSX games and the very different NES games all together.
I never got around to playing these but it's a good chance to catch up.
Sure could emulate them great but an official resource is good, especially when they don't toss out an odd version or two.

I'm hoping that they'll be using the official retranslations for the MSX titles, since they've included them as bonuses in some previous releases as well, and the original official English version of the first MSX Metal Gear was apparently missing a lot of the script.

This to me would have been awesome about 5-7 years ago to be honest. Instead of re releasing these games (with i believe were already released for PC at some point except for mgs3) they should have just ported mgs4 for PC..

I don't think we have much to worry about there Konami has been good about their retro collections and will likely use the best version thats already out there.
I hope they include that original bad translation too just for curiosity sake.
Then no one will have to dig out the rom just to find out.
Hmm though I guess the remake of the ps1 game might not be in there just the PS1 version so it might not be complete.
Maybe I missed something.
