Valve has released an update to Proton Experimental, bringing with it a few nice fixes for issues in various games so here's a run over what's changed.
This update was released June 6th as Valve continue to roll out upgrades to Proton Experimental first, before they merge them into the main Proton 8.0-x releases.
For newly supported games they're listing The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, not that I imagine many people are bothered by it with it being one of the worst releases this year. The more interesting changes are elsewhere that includes:
- Fixed flipped videos in Secret of Mana and other titles.
- Fixed Call of Duty 2 hanging when loading maps.
- Fixed Creativerse hanging while exiting from a local game.
- Fixed Ubisoft Connect intermittently having an invisible window.
- Fixed a few Proton 8.0 regressions:
- DJMAX RESPECT V is playable again.
- Halo: The Master Chief Collection menus no longer are broken.
Full changelog can be seen here.
How to change your Proton version:
Steam Deck:
- Pick a game in your Library and head to the little cog icon on the right.
- Click Properties, then Compatibility on the left.
- Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.
On a Linux desktop:
- Right click a game, go to Properties.
- Compatibility on the left.
- Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.

I still get "Contacting server to get the latest matchmaking data. Please wait." on Desktop Linux with Experimental for Halo MCC. Does this game actually work online for anyone..?
Also, the Anticheat options are still swapped.

Whenever I see "Call of Duty" I think "Doll of Cutie". Kind of changes the ambience . . .

I haven't had any MCC menu issues. I'm on Proton-GE though.
