No matter how you play Minecraft there's probably a little something for everyone in this update, as it continues being one of the most popular games across all platforms.

The best way to play Minecraft on desktop Linux and Steam Deck, especially for modding, is with the Prism Launcher see my previous guide for setting it up on Steam Deck. However, the official launcher works quite well if you're not doing any modding. You might also want to know about a recent security incident for modding but anyone playing without mods are fine.

The music from the trailer was quite nice.

Unrelated, but I hope loading times aren't much worse than in 1.19.4, it improved so much in that version, especially nice for modding. They did break semver but they improved performance and load times by a major amount.

Kinda poor timing with the Fractureiser virus still under investigation, best to stay away from MC until the dust settles.

Fractureiser has nothing to do with the vanilla version of the game, and is only an issue for people using mods. So why should we keep away from this update/Minecraft ? Not everyone use mods.

Since they added thier chat reporting, I refuse to play any version past 1.19. (Including 1.19.1 aka 1.19.84)

Ha. I came in here to post the same. I was going to ask if I was the only one. Got my answer! Microsoft is too heavy-handed and big brother when I all I do is host a server for my kids and one of their friends to play. I enforce a user ACL, which is effectively the same as banning most of the world, thus I don't need this kind of surveillance and user reporting in the name of "protection." I am the one responsible for my server and interactions, not Microsoft.

You my friend are so based that I don't know how to put it into words. Btw, do your kids use Linux? Just curious if you are starting them off right?

Yup! I'm not sure they've ever touched a Windows computer before.

Schools have been moving to ChromeOS recently. I just graduated and am working over the summer in my school's IT department and we have to repair old chromebooks and Enlist over 300+ new ones. Fun.
Also running cord under the school like a Vietnam Tunnel Rat.

You're getting great experience for an IT career. I did those same things long ago.

A bit late but there is a mod that remove the cryptographic signature of chat messages you send, making the chat reporting useless as they can't prove it was you who sent the message : https://modrinth.com/mod/no-chat-reports

There is also a plugin that does this server side : https://modrinth.com/plugin/freedomchat

I use both, even on private servers, just to show the happy finger to Microsoft
