Gravity Circuit, a side-scrolling platformer that turns the action up to 11 and builds upon the legacy of popular console titles from the 1980s and 1990s has been released, and it has a native Linux version.

Released on July 13th by developer Domesticated Ant Games and publisher PID Games, Gravity Circuit sees the player guiding Kai, an upgradeable robotic war-veteran who is the user of the titular Gravity Circuit, as he seeks to take down the evil Virus Army and put a stop to their attempt at world-domination.

Set in a future world populated by sentient robots, the game wears its inspirations on its sleeve and that's no bad thing, as it looks like a very slick reimagining of classic 1990s console platformers such as Capcom's Mega Man X, but with an even quicker pace and much more acrobatic movement. It seems to be finding favour with fans, too, with all reviews on Steam currently sitting at Very Positive within a week of release.

The official write-up provides more information;

Gravity Circuit - a flashy action packed 2d platformer in the spirit of console classics.

Mission: Stop the Virus Army’s Uprising!
In a futuristic world populated by sentient robots, its inhabitants are once more threatened by an old foe, the Virus Army. Defeated decades ago, it has re-emerged from the shadows with a unique goal, complete world domination. Severely weakened Guardian Corps are left with no other choice but to call upon a hero of the previous war: the lone operative, Kai, who harnesses the powers of the mysterious Gravity Circuit. As the world's last line of defense, journey through futuristic environments, and take down the evil mastermind behind this chaos.

Reminiscent of classic platformers from the 80s and 90s, with action dialed to maximum, channel your power into your fists and send foes flying, or grapple them to get up close and personal. In your quest you will acquire many new powers, which will allow you to go even further beyond!

  • Action packed platforming

By channeling your energy into devastating punches, perform satisfying combos and send foes flying, causing destruction and mayhem in the process!

  • Save the innocent, and power up!

Stages are packed with secrets and innocent civilians alike. Uncover and rescue them, and unlock new powers!

  • Single player campaign with 12 stages

Each with their unique set of mechanics, your platforming and combat skills will be tested against an armada of enemies and bosses!

Gravity Circuit is in active development by a small and dedicated core team. You can follow the game's development via Twitter.

Gravity Circuit is available now on Steam, Fanatical, Humble Store, and GOG.com.

I only paid like $10 USD for Mighty No. 9 on Wii U new sealed at Toys "R" Us during their selloff sale. It was good enough for that price. lol

I'm gonna be getting Gravity Circuit on the Switch. Though the native Linux support is temping.

I was one of the idiots who backed it! I only threw in about a fiver, though, so I never ended up having to play it.

No way, nuh-uh. I'm not touching Mighty No. 9, hahaha! Gravity Circuit looks like exactly my jam, though.

Come to think of it. I also bought it off PSN on sale for like $3 or $4 USD too. I got both the PS3 and PS4 versions though.

I think it gets as low as like $2 USD on Steam during the sales. Since you backed it, you may as well play it at that price. lol

I suppose there comes a point in game quality where the cost of the time you put into it alone, which you can never get back, is too much investment before you even get to giving them actual money.

Honestly, after they gave out a promotional Nintendo 3DS game ("Mighty Gunvolt", it was called) only for US backers and basically told the rest of us we weren't getting anything and to just forget it, I just forgot about it!

I think that Mighty No. 9's funding and development situation had already erupted into nonsense even by then, though, from what I remember. I only caught up on the rest of what went wrong after stumbling across this video by chance last year - and goodness me there was A LOT!

XD
They'll be crying like an anime fan on prom night!
