Valve has released another upgrade to Proton Experimental for Steam Deck and desktop Linux on July 27th, here's a run over what's new and improved for you. ICYMI: Valve recently released Proton 8.0-3.

Firstly they're listing the 2D fighting game CHAOS CODE -NEW SIGN OF CATASTROPHE- released in 2017 from FK Digital and Arc System Works as a newly playable title.

Other fixes include:

  • Fixed Street Fighter 6 claiming that Proton players are always connected via wired interface.
  • Fixed Dark Souls II, Aura: Fate of the Ages and Train Simulator not working on certain setups using very long library paths.
  • Fixed recent experimental regression which made turning camera in Star Wars: The Old Republic on XWayland buggy.
  • Fixed Final Fantasy XIII having broken input after main window loses focus.

Plus they've enabled NVIDIA's NVAPI for these titles:

  • Alone in the Dark.
  • Desordre.
  • Doge Simulator.
  • Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
  • Portal Prelude RTX.
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
  • Remnant 2.
  • Sherlock Holmes The Awakened.
  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
  • Trepang2.

You can see the changelog here.

Oh man, this one drove me absolutely crazy during my playthrough. Too bad the game itself did so even worse and kept me from continuing the other parts.

Wow, I just began playing FFXIII 2 days ago, could it be the same day the rolled the fix? I remember reading it needed all kind of fixes to run, even a third party mod, but other people commenting it ran out of the box for them, as always, nothing for sure, but because it was so cheap and it's such an iconic game for me, and yes, it's really really good, both the story and the gameplay, the later after 2-3 hours into the game.

"Need" is a strong word in this case, 13 does run out of the box but FF13Fix does alot to make the game's frame pacing and UI elements bearable as the port is pretty abysmal. I would consider it essential on PC even though it technically works without it.
