Arcadegeddon arrived on Steam recently from IllFonic after being an Epic Exclusive. It's flashy ever-evolving co-op roguelite shooter and the developers plan to ensure it stays compatible with Linux / Steam Deck. Note: the developer provided a key to our Steam Curator.

About the game:

This ever-evolving co-op multiplayer, roguelite shooter allows you and up to 3 friends to explore multiple biomes, compete in mini games, find hidden chests, and battle a crazy cast of enemies and bosses. Arcadegeddon lets you play at your own pace with its mix of PVE and PVP gameplay. Speed into the action or take it slow, it’s up to you. As you get to know the town, you can dive into additional challenges from the local gangs that hangout in Gilly’s Arcade, earning you much more than just street cred. Though, the view from the top of the leaderboards must be pretty darn good...

Curiously, I have been unable to get it to launch on desktop Linux (Fedora KDE 38) so I've logged a bug with Valve on the Proton GitHub. Testing Proton 7, 8 and Experimental all gave me the same problem. However, it is "Steam Deck Playable" and it does actually launch properly on Deck with Proton Experimental.

Feels like a weird but entertaining mash-up between Fortnite in style, Borderlands in lots of the mechanics and plenty of its own spice. If you like co-op shooters so far it seems really great. Keeping it on the Medium graphics preset, with a 40Hz / 40 FPS lock so far seems like a good fit between performance and graphics while feeling good on the controls.

Running fine on Steam Deck. Click pics to enlarge.

I asked the developers about Linux / Steam Deck support for the game, in regards to anti-cheat since it does have an online focus (although you can play solo) and they said this:

"We have some of our own anti-cheat technology in place to protect against common ways of cheating/hacking. Without getting too far into the details, there are some systems to prevent memory modification and network traffic parsing. We are also server authoritative in multiplayer on dedicated servers. Our current in-house solutions were implemented with Steam Deck in mind, at the time there were not many options. Any future anti-cheat features or systems added will absolutely be implemented on Steam Deck as a requirement. We take our player reporting very seriously and hate to see anyone ruin the fun for the masses which is why we continuously do all we can to put a stop to cheating."

So there you have it. Great to hear they will ensure it continues working.

You can find it on Steam.

So co-op does currently work on Steam Deck?

To be honest, I'm not a fan of a game that you have to pay for that also has "In App Purchases" too. There's just something about it that rubs me the wrong way. I tend to skip them unless I *really* wanna play it.

The loot box games disgust me, and the blatant gambling in NBA 2K does as well. (That's on top of the money generated from NBA 2K not also going to former players enough, even if their likeness is used.)
