CrossOver 23 released for Windows apps and games on Linux, ChromeOS and macOS

CodeWeavers, the company that works in partnership with Valve on Proton, has released CrossOver 23 - the latest version of their app to help run Windows apps and games on other platforms like Linux, ChromeOS and macOS.

While there's numerous other apps that can do the same thing like Heroic Games Launcher and Lutris, CodeWeavers directly support and sponsor Wine and Proton development. You also get dedicated support since CrossOver itself is commercial software at £60 for one year of support and updates or £414 to get support and updates for life. Right now you can also use code "LEVELUP23" to get 23% off the yearly CrossOver (not the for-life plan) until August 31st. They also offer a free trial.

So what's new in CrossOver 23? Quite a lot, there's some major internal upgrades. The changelog:

• Core Technology Improvements:
  • CrossOver 23 includes Wine 8.0.1, with over 5,000 improvements, and selected patches from recent Wine with benefits to many popular applications.
  • Update to Wine Mono 7.4.
  • Update to vkd3d 1.8.
  • Update to DXVK 1.10.3.
  • Support for EA App (including many EA games like The Sims 4, Titanfall 2, Mass Effect Legendary Edition etc).
  • Ability to uninstall applications.
• macOS:
  • Initial support for DirectX 12 games, including Diablo II: Resurrected and Diablo IV.
  • Initial support for geometry shaders and transform feedback.
  • Update to MoltenVK 1.2.3.
• Linux:
  • Office 365 support on Wayland.
  • Support for Diablo IV.
