Larian only just released a MASSIVE patch for Baldur's Gate 3, and another is being planned out to come with some "major performance improvements" which sounds exciting - especially for Steam Deck players.
The first patch went live on August 25th, and the patch notes were so long it couldn't fit on Steam. With it addressing over 1,000 bugs like short characters not really being able to smooch properly. That's been addressed now though so Larian say they're bringing back "Short King Summer".
So what's all this about a second patch then? Well, on X (formerly Twitter) Larian Studios posted this:
"Patch 2 is around the corner. It features major performance improvements, many new tweaks & changes, and begins our journey incorporating feedback into Origin Character epilogues, among other major things. Details coming soon."
Given how even on my desktop, certain parts would drop quite a lot in performance, this is good news. We already know they're planning to upgrade to FSR 2.2 as they previously confirmed, but some major performance improvements on top of that are going to be very welcome as it's really rough in many parts on Steam Deck too.
You can buy Baldur's Gate 3 on Steam and GOG.
Still easily going to be my GOTY, unless something else particularly amazing appears. Starfield who? How's your play-through going? It's still proving to be a huge game with a peak player count today of 539,576 which is very impressive.
Put off my playthrough until a patch, and hearing then the second wasn't going to be far behind, I'm still waiting to continue.
And there's still some patches of black left on the map, too ...
I'm not rushing my playthrough either, so that the later acts receive a bit more polish by the time I arrive. Not that it's hard to linger in Act 1, as there is so much to do and discover. Even when I think I've already turned every stone twice, there surely is another hidden area somewhere that I missed before.

Same here. I accidentally wandered into the underdark and I think I've been there now for like 3 weeks!!
How's your play-through going?Well, I'm already on my third character (a dragonborn monk), though none ever left Act 1 (the furthest I got was the underdark with the second character). 😅
(a dragonborn monk)
Another man of fine taste.
ACT-3 Baldur's Gate region is pretty terrible performance and I've even seen less performance with DLSS enabled in a few cases, the game just has some weird stuff going on that can bring a 4090 to its knees at 40-50fps 4k, even with DLSS.
Act 1 and 2 however seem mostly fine.
I wish they'd fix the coop companion staying in your party and taking up a slot without the ability to change him out.
That's planned, as a recently released post on Steam indicates: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1086940/view/3669924544104905987 (it's at the end)
A lot of my friends are also playing several characters and doing Act 1 only, but I can't do that. I think investing in one character during the full play through suits me better, and then start over.
Outside of inventory mangement and the absolutely horrible camera, my main gripe so far is that every cutscene plays at ~12 fps :|
I been thinking about trying a different rendering engine, what's the launch parameter for dx? you can use --vulcan for the vulcan one but I've not been able to find one for dx? and vulcan is the default on Linux I think ( well hope, or I've been sitting there waiting for it to constantly recompile the vulcan shaders for no good reason xD )
In act3 currently having a blast tbh must've sunk 100+ hours into the game :D

They are 2 separate exes (bg3.exe and bg3_dx11.exe), at least on the gog version. You are lucky that you avoided the myriad soft and hardlocks in Baldurs Gate. My advice to everyone playing: save every 30s as soon as you hit Rivington.

Good news - patch two supposedly has this now :)
Won't know if it actually works for a bit as I'm not the one hosting our multiplayer play through :)
